123ashleyp
Hi All I have a 1.6 Diesel focus 06 Reg Ghia and only getting 49.1 MPG on a motorway travelling at 70mph on cruise control. I feel I should be getting more. I have even reset the computer but it still goes around 49mph Is anyone else getting the same or more? Any tips of getting more (filters cleaning, millers fuel cleaner etc) Ash
artscot79
Its well documented that fords mpg figures are over optimistic even on the new cars all the experts say not to expect it due to high numbers of complaints that ford more than others fall well short

ben1191
Well i get the claimed figures and often more than the claimed. Its how you drive. If you drive like a dipshit as i see most people do,then you wont get the claimed figures. cuke
Hi, turn off the cruise. Fords quoted figures are as far out as any other manufacturers, Audi have just had their wrist slapped by the Advertising Standards for making false claims http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-Results/Industry-News/CAR-tech-whos-to-blame-for-your-cars-terrible-fuel-economy/ At least Ford tell you this on the back of the car brochure and in the manual... artscot79
as said it has nothing to do with driving like a (should be deleted ) its a fact you dont get the claimed figures those who claim they do live in a fantasy since those figures were achieved in a laboratory at optimum conditions since no one drives like that in a lab they will never get the top figures as said ford are as bad as many of the others for example a hyundai i30 diesel was claimed at 78mpg actual tests put it at low 40s that sone of many ford get more complaints as its the most popular car in the uk so more complaints

FOCA
Have a look here for real mpg figures, i get 34 mpg in my petrol if it makes you feel any better lol Agreed - 20 MPG is a "low" MPG - not 49.1 - some can only dream about getting such a good MPG! Perhaps the title should read "MPG lower than expected"
martyntdci
I do feel that it's low.... as I own a 08 1.8 tdci and around town driving heavy footed I get 39-42.... We recently went butlins in bognor Regis, I live in stoke on Trent.... distance was about 240m give or take 70% motorway other 30 a34...... we averaged 67 ish on optimax ..... we did the full run on 60 quids worth of juice..... with a tad left over

mjt
I think martyntdci has put his finger on it. Diesels are most fuel efficient on really long trips. We took our 1.8Tdci up to Scotland earlier this year and the mpg went up to 65. At home it varies between 47-52 and never goes above 52 even on a 50-mile trip on mainly low-speed local roads. Just a trip down to the local supermarket instantly knocks it back.
ben1191
as others have said,i can get 40mpg with my foot to the floor around town.If you drive everywhere on a cold engine thats why you get poor mpg, once the engines warmed up i can get the quoted figures and have even had better. The problem with peoples driving is you all seem to accelerate until you physically have to break.Let the car roll, you know where the lights are and you know where the traffic is,acceling to stay on 30mph only to stop at the bottom is pointless, slip it in neutral and roll it there. mobily
My petrol gets about 41mpg on a run but around town can be as low as 28/29. When we bought the car we were using the car for just town driving but then my wife got a job which requires 25 miles of A road driving each day.... diesel next time! martyntdci
i stated 240, i ment it was 480m on £60 worth of juice, with left over.... **if you drive everywhere on a cold engine thats why you get poor mpg** your not ment to do this in a diesel, this is prolly 1 of the quickest ways to kill a td.... **The problem with peoples driving is you all seem to accelerate until you physically have to break** i do not know anybody that does this even my sell heavy footed dont do this.... im more of a pull off person n overtaking.... when we get to lights/roundabouts the car is in neutral with no clutch... at lights stops etc..the misses keeps it in gear with clutch depressed everytime she gets a telling off but never listens(this kills the clutch quite quick also)
123ashleyp
Sounds about average then. I was worried it was fault but seems its not.
artscot79
no its not a fault sadly its just what happens with town driving since thats what i do almost all the time or short trips ive always had better economy from a petrol than a diesel
