lucus.j
i have a 1.8 mk1 focus, since i have owned it the speedo occassionally drops to 0 and you can feel a noticeable power drop when this happens and when i put my foot on the clutch coming to a junction it will cut out on me?? the lcd display will also sometimes just go blank or the speedo will just do its own thing going from 0-140 waving about all over the place. any ideas?
mintalkin
i would say the speed sensor is playing up, check the wiring for damage but you may need a new sensor.
Stoney871
Either the speed sensor or condensation on the circuit board in the speedo cluster.
jeebowhite
there was also the faulty cluster from your car's era, so worst case, you may need a new one.
lucus.j
thanks everyone diagnosed as speed sensor so far, its getting round to doing it now
Stoney871
The speed sensor does appear to be a common MK1/1.5 fault. I had it on my old car and a couple of friends locally had it too. A bit of a pig to swap but the replacement units are pretty much unlikely to go again.
