georgen
I thought you might not of known that, personally think its a bit over the top but plenty have gone off and you know about it when they do and thats before the damage they do to your car lol. At the place i worked, the whole building is classed as a explosives factory and you cant go into certain areas without antistatic footwear etc, they reckon static can set the ignitors off, pretty sure thats why you arnt allow to post them lol.

MartynS
wow, if that's the force of an airbag I would rather not crash! I guess the dash/steering wheel takes a lot of the force though. If not perhaps the front occupants would be blown out through the rear window? Probably not too bad unless its cold out and you have the heated screen on... This thread has really taken a dodgy turn. :D
georgen
This thread has really taken a dodgy turn. :D I blame the ones from Ireland mate, they proper dodgy lol On the airbag front tho they are wicked, apparently america had a problem at first caused by lack of seatbelted people in crashes, as no seatbelt was worn the person was thrown forward whilst the bag inflated towards them, not listed here but heres what Winky says: Injuries and fatalities Lives saved by seat belts and airbags in the United States of America over a 10-year period. Under some rare conditions, airbags can injure and in some very rare instances kill vehicle occupants. To provide crash protection for occupants not wearing seat belts, U.S. airbag designs trigger much more forcefully than airbags designed to the international ECE standards used in most other countries. Recent airbag controllers can recognize if a belt is used, and alter the airbag cushion deployment parameters accordingly.[61] In 1990, the first automotive fatality attributed to an airbag was reported.[62]TRW produced the first gas-inflated airbag in 1994, with sensors and low-inflation-force bags becoming common soon afterwards. Dual-depth (also known as dual-stage) airbags appeared on passenger cars in 1998. By 2005, deaths related to airbags had declined, with no adult deaths and two child deaths attributed to airbags that year. Injuries remain fairly common in accidents with an airbag deployment. Serious injuries are less common, but severe or fatal injuries can occur to vehicle occupants very near an airbag or in direct contact when it deploys. Such injuries may be sustained by unconscious drivers slumped over the steering wheel, unrestrained or improperly restrained occupants who slide forward in the seat during pre-crash braking, and properly belted drivers sitting very close to the steering wheel. A good reason for the driver not to cross hands on the steering wheel, a rule taught to most learner drivers but quickly forgotten by most, is that an airbag deployment while negotiating a turn may result in the driver's hand(s) being driven forcefully into his or her face, exacerbating any injuries from the airbag alone. Improvements in sensing and gas generator technology have allowed the development of third generation airbag systems that can adjust their deployment parameters to size, weight, position and restraint status of the occupant. These improvements have demonstrated a reduced injury risk factor for small adults and children who had an increased risk of injury with first generation airbag systems.[63]

georgen
Lenny's fault.. ..such lower class.. .like that benefits street lot ye have! Never seen it lol, but heard a canny story today from over your side of the water concerning mobility cars lol, apparently there were more mobility cars in Ireland northern I will give you that than anywhere else in the british isles, heard people were getting them that didnt need them but entitled to them and taxi drivers were running them and giving them a dropsy, now that would be a program for channel 4 lol. well enough of spamming Lennys thread so Im off to bed as going to dundee tomorrow morning which is a damn sight further away than bradford which at 2pm today thought I was going to lol.
jeebowhite
there is a light dusting of powder in order to prevent the airbag in its closed state from sticking to itself, when it deploys, this provides a frictionless surface and prevents the air bag from tearing on deployment.

Lenny
First picture here is of the carpet on the drivers side of the centre console in the footwell, a bright light caught my eye, Looked under the carpet and realised the rubber grommet had popped out of place somehow For the rest of this post guys I'm going to just put images and ill edit to include text later, Drivers side air vent duct removed for a clean prior to refitting Fitting back to main fan unit, Difficult getting the duct in around the wiring loom. You may be able to see the M6 holes inside the vent opening, Gotta get two screws in to the dash through those holes working blind under the dash Such fun! The dash was able to be pulled out a bit though One done Next was passenger side vent Air duct in place under passenger airbag unit. Next was the centre vent All three replaced :) I disconnected the battery at this point for reconnecting the passenger airbag after bolting it back in to place All good :) I didn't want the connection on the air bag to be the final connection encase it blew: i didn't want to be next to it lol I disconnected at the drivers fuse board just encase
