Not checked fault codes as yet... Engine work recently new heater plugs and egr cleaned that I know of.. previous history is pretty good only services and belt done at 127k by dealer

Milage now is 179k

Car its self runs pretty much fine after the initial 20secs ish after start....

I have a lead on the way to scan car

Check faults if none present first do injector leak off test seen as new glow plugs installed

Make sure engine cold when doing test if they all the same I think u need get injectors test a common problem is nozzle leaks when left standing over night an car been over fuel until excess fuel burnt off after few seconds

Could this be a problem on this mondeo there is a Clear fuel pipe that runs along right side top of engine with a bleed type nozzle along it... the original cap disappeared apparently and has a tyre dust cap fitted at present... I was going to ring ford to see if a replacement is available. ..

Maybe a thought was fuel running back due to slight air leak. .?

However there is no leak there...

The leak back test... I assume there should be no drop in levels....?

Check ur theory first is is there big air bubbles in pipe but is this only an issue from stone cold start

no mick if the car has been ran for say 1 hour 2 hours or more then switched off left to stand for say 45 mins give or take 10 mins..!

it will start fine but on tick over it will miss slightly for approx 20secs +/- 5secs

excuse my rough example of what i mean

engine noise duurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr miss duurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr miss duurrrrr miss durrrrrrrrr miss durrrrrrrr miss duuur miss durr miss duurr miss then all ok...!!!

lol...

Ha strange one u need check faults first see if anything pops up doubt it glow plugs cause u engine still warm but u should still test them for January ment be really cold if no faults leak off test they need be check if no faults then we see wher to go next but fault codes first before throwing out more ideas haha

its a shame as the car seems ok i just had one other niggle that i dont tink the temp gauge is accurate i need to find out what the full running temp is showing on a diagnostic on someone else's 2.0 mk4 mondeo.. then i can check mine to see if its right running temperature being sent to ecu

What wrong wit temp gauge have u done time belt think the due on yours at 125 k

Link to comment

yes belt was done at 127k on history print out

what i am seeing on temp gauge is max running temp varies between 72 ish and max 80 degrees on temp gauge... actual ecu reading has not been seen yet but i dont know what it should be any way..?

i rang ford service and they didnt really help much they just said the temp gauge is only an indication not an actual water temp...!

We'll usually when it upto temp it should stick in middle it might fluctuate a bit if u turn heatin on hot or cold but generally with ford if u drivin climate control off it should stick in middle if u drive wit radio off an hear fan cut in might move but mostly should stick in middle test coolant temp sensor this could be related to ur problem ecu might be givin to much or too little fuel on start up

Yes thats exactly what I thought... where is the cts on the 2.0 mondeo. ..?

The temp gauge never gets above 80 most of time sits at 73 ish..

And how do I test it...?

Yep I have mick... I just had car on forscan and temp readings are 71 degrees min and 75 degrees max up and down...

never gets any higher than 75 deg

But dont know what readings should be in forscan on the duratorq engine..

That has be broke now I not 100% but I thought thermostat only opens between 83 an 89 degrees what's story with fan is it cutting in a out still how to test sensor engine from stone cold back probe sensor ohms an as temp rises resistance should drop I think

Fan does not come on at all... mick I don't know where the sensor is on the mondeo... I think im just going to change the

Thing and I might put a new thermthermostat in for good measure

I remember my other car did a similar thing that was a vw passat...

I think tho on the 2.0 duratorq its a complete thermostat and housing that has to be changed..?

But as I nentioned I don't know where the cts is and what the actual readings will be. ..

Im sure there is more than one chap can help in this matter. ...

I value your help though mick

Cheers

P.s. some beer tokens in it for you if i can get this sorted. ..
