Help Identifying Wheel Locking Nut Type

Hi guys

I've been a bit of a lemon and have lost the wheel locking nut key for my alloys. I want to get a replacement however I am having trouble tracking down the exact one I need. I don't know the wheel manufacturer but I will give an image of the logo on the wheels and the nut itself.

Locking nut:

Wheel logo:

My best guess so far is that it is a McGard nut but what kind I have no idea.

Thanks for any help guys!

Rob

Is it the one with a rotating collar?

If so, they're a little harder to remove.

Like a complete tit, I lost mine the day before getting new tyres fitted ("Ahh...I'll put this somewhere safe...I don't want to lose it before tomorrow!! That would be embarrassing...")

Went to a local Indie chap who, after !Removed! himself laughing charged me a tenner and used a pneumatic chisel to force the locking nut to rotate off. Minor damage to the wheel sustained. But that beat the £500 Ford were going to charge me to try their collection of keys or £60 per wheel to remove - which they admitted would probably destry the wheel too!!

I belive the Ford ones are made by McGard. I have replaced mine with a set of standard McGard locking nuts (no rotating collar)

I am not sure if it has a rotating collar or not, what exactly would I be looking for? I have literally no idea about locking wheel nuts, these came on the car whyen I got it. I suppose I should probably buy a new set and get a local garrage to have them off then.

It looks to me like a standard Ford nut. Pop into your local dealer, they should be able to remove them for you and you can replace them with a mcguard. be prepared to pay out a few quid though!

Yeah - my local dealer was going to charge an arm and a leg to TRY they're collection. Add !Removed! for forced removal (destruction of the wheel would be complimentary)

Guess what I found last night...6 months after I needed it...

where did you manage to find the card?

I'm going to call the local ford dealer for a price on removal and the local garage for a price on drilling them out. Whichever cheapest I guess. I'm going to need a whole new set now whichever I choose.

be warned! they are a sod to remove!

my last Focus had one stuffed nut, The end result was spot welding, arcing, chisseling, drilling, pounding and it still wouldnt come off.

Final result - death by axle grinder!

The wheel actually had to be full blown axle ground off! it was not a pretty sight!

That sounds freakishly frightening! I feel like even more of a lemon for losing it.

In most ford garages they have master set of lock nut keys not every dealer gets them cause they expensive but ring around see if they have them

it will certainly be a darned site cheaper than new wheels if it came to it.

Well I called the Ford dealer and they want £50 for new bolts plus £25 per wheel to take the bolts off if they don't have the key. However I called around local tire garages and it turns out most of them do removal for Between £10-15 per wheel. So providing Ford can't use their master key I'll get it done at a tire place.

ouch, that really is a shafting!

I was lucky I got on so well with my dealer and the guy who was more than familiar with my car! lol a fiver beer money for the nuts off wasnt that bad :|

Hopefully they do have the nut, but £100 to use a key they have sat there is taking the....

Oh no, they didnt say how much use of the master key was. They said if they couldn't do it with the master key they would need to get someone else with a machine to press them out and that would be the £25 per wheel.

I guess this is something I am going to have to chalk up to experience.

If none ur lock nuts are butchered there should be no problem an tip for future anytime u bring ur car anywhere for maintenance tell them not to use air gun on lock nut an it's not ment be torqued as tight as rest wheel nuts this will keep them in good condition

Well got it all done this morning. Turns out the person I rang was just a call centre flunky and was taking **** about the whole £25 per wheel thing. Whole job done with new bolts at £107. Not as bad as I thought it could cost but still... ouch. Ford charge a mint for labour. Well that was an expensive lesson learned.

I had this problem the locking but didn't come with the car so u welded a nut to them and undone them slowly so the nut didn't snap off
