Tyre Load And Speed Ratings?

I need to order a new set of tyres for my '56 Plate 2ltr Focus Estate (205/55/16)

Just a bit confused on what load and speed rating I should be running.

At the moment there are 91V's all round, but some garages are saying I need to be W's, others say stick with V?

Another garage said it doesn't matter as no one takes any notice!! (Won't be using them at all!)

Can anybody help me on this one?

inside the drivers door is a sticker with your tyre rating on it mines a 2.0 tdci and it says v rated.

Don't write the last guys off so easily they are onto something. Most people don't take notice. V is fine W cost more money but don't think W rated tyres are any better on a focus because a focus top speed is limited and won't go 149mph. Saying that being an estate focus the ratings might be a tad different so as already said check inside of your door.

You do not have to fit the exact same tyres as stated on the inside of the door that is only a guide line and tyres should be selected according to use of the vehicle. Extra load I would recommend if towing a caravan for example.

There are many choices such as 91v reinforced tyres with extra load, inside of your door won't show that

Good call Shane, forgot all about that label - even though I clean the door shuts every time I wash the car!

Kurt, thanks for that.

I did kind of think the last garage may have a point after posting my question - I think he maybe referring to the top speed and lack of towbar etc.

I'll probably stick with the V's, seeing as how they are on there and have passed many MOT's since.

To be fair, I could just grab some N rated tyres (Not that I've seen any) - can't legally go faster than 87MPH anyway!

v rated tyres are whats rcomended for the car(149MPH) so going up a bracket to w rated(168MPH) is just a waste,as long as you do not go under whats recomended your insurance will be fine.

Another reason I wanted to make sure I had the correct ratings - insurance!

I don't want to be caught out just because of that.
