I know this is a topic that often pops up on the forum, but im just looking at what people have been quoted to have it done...

I have a 5 door focus zs and I will be getting front and rear tints...

I am aware of the legal limits, requirements and regulations.

So i have been quoted and wanted to see how it compared to other people...

So how much have you paid or how much have you been quoted??

Many thanks

Makes a nice difference to the car mate, look forward to some pictures,

And you can't open the windows for up to five days after,

Yea I know but I don't want jet black on the back and nothing on the front!!! I'm thinking legal on fronts then maybe 70% tint on the backs!!

I don't like it when there is a big difference between front and back but at the same time I think 30% all round won't be dark enough lol

Trust me mate don't go 70% dark,

I had 90% dark on my Toyota starlet and it was like bin liners on the windows couldn't see in or out,

13072009481.jpg

16062009439.jpg

I've now got 35% dark on rear of both focus and the Levin, its dark enough not to see in and easy to see out of,

You see the car as standard has a factory tint of up to 15% dark, so adding 35% dark to the window translates to a total of 50% dark tinted, adding 70% dark would be 85% dark when fitted.

I've then got an additional 10% dark on the front doors of the focus,

It bridges the contrast and makes the front windows a legal limit of 25% dark.

See the tint pictures on my build thread, this link will bring you to the beginning page of the tint discussion

10% dark on your tail light units would also look good.

Damn good call lenny I did not take into account the stock tint.

15% sounds a bit much for the stock tint? Anyways just to be clear you added 10% on the front of your focus? that as you said makes it a total of 25% allowing 75% lighy through right?

10% dark on your tail light units would also look good.

Thanks Kurt

15% does sound a lot but that's the limit in some European country's,

So all car manufacturers are aloud go up to a limit of 15% on all windows meaning 85% of light gets through,

The road limit in the uk is 25% on the front side windows and 15% on the windscreen,

So no point touching the windscreen as its already at the most 15%

I've added 10% to my front door windows meaning its now tinted up to 25%

Which allows 75% light through,

See the difference in the window where the tint is applied compared to below the line where the window is a factory tint up to 15%

Rear windows added 35% tint on top of the manufacturers 15% makes them 50% tint allowing 50% light through but can't see in.

Perfect lenny just stunning. I got a quote before £175 all round not sure of the quality work yet hence my hesitation.

Your camera pic of the glass really show up the factory tint and that's barely visible

Thanks,

I had to take the glass out when installing the ford logo puddle lights,

So I thought Id take that picture of the glass for future reference such as this thread

To show the difference in factory tint and standard tint that is up to 15% tinted.

However Id like to note: they don't remove the windows to tint them, they apply the tint with the windows in place,

Also you can open the windows for up to. Five days after fitting to allow them maximum drying time.

Finally to note:

If you live close to the sea,

I recommend you purchase deionized water from Halfords or somewhere,

Present it to the person applying your tint to use instead of the tap water.

I've saw tint applied using hard tap water and within 6 months of fitting it starts to flake and peal,

Because on close inspection you can visibly see the particals of lime and sand that have been carried in the water and trapped in the tint between the window and the glass.

Yeah it was focus essentials that recommended essex tints to me and i couldnt have asked for a better service!!

Not the cheapest but they use the most expensive tinting film to ensure the best quality with a very high scratch resistance...

Ive since been in touch with focus essentials to thank them and to ask if there was any discounts they could get us, and im waiting to hear back from them as we speak...

And yes ive had my mudflaps on for about 2yrs not and still look brand new... i beleive afew other members have purchased sets from them aswel!!

Bit of a drive too be fair lenny but thanks for the offer...

did you have website decals on your motor, or should i say your mrs car lol

essex tints also do 3m carbon wrapping, I'm just working out what i want to get wrapped lol

I was going to get the chrome bonnet strip done but want to get the strip off so that he can de-grease it properly so it lasts...

could get the interior done, like the stereo surround done but i hate the fact you cant do the heated windscreen buttons,

looks weird imho...
