Looking very neat mate.

Now we all just have to sit back, and wait for the stupid drivers to show up on our cameras! :)

I've had plenty get caught on mine, its just having the time to take it out, download, re encode/cut the video then have YouTube take forever uploading it!

Fitted my Mobius today :)

Before i start i mounted it in my BMW as this does more mileage, will order one for C-Max depending how happy i am with it :)

Think im going to buy my self an adhesive mount as it reduces the hang, but happy to wait for it whilst my suction mount does the job

I ran the cable under the trim and down side, cable was pretty slim to tucked under nicely, only seeable down near door:

Then it finished up going under my centre console into the rear cigarette lighter socket

I removed the sticker from front of camera as it was irritating me and made it stand out :)

Happy with look of it, like i said though, i want to reduce hang so will order adhesive mount.

Took my cam out of the car to have a look at the videos, got these three:

Guy goes the wrong way: http://youtu.be/8pa2FtL2Pgs

Red light running: http://youtu.be/uqL2oDxXNrE

Not concentrating? http://youtu.be/9usaakDdoio

Videos are still processing so may not be up straight away!

To all those with the Mobius (and maybe other dashcams in general) - do you find that when driving facing sunlight, you can't read any number plates or see any proper details because it focuses on the sunlight?

Apparently there is a new firmware update, don't know if that's improved things?

I am on firmware v1.17 - latest - To combat the glare from the sun, you need to tweak the brightness/contrast/saturation/white balance, I have adjusted mine slightly and its better than default settings

I am about to go and get my cam so I can check the vids from yesterday as it was really sunny and I'm interested on how its dealt with it with the settings I use.

Hi guys.

This is a great thread and I have now received my Mobius and other bits and pieces to hard wire this using a piggy back to the fuse holder. The wire from the USB lead looks very thin comapred with the fuse tap - did you have any issues connecting them together? Now that the mobius has a motion detection capability I am considering having it connected to be "always live" so that it automatically starts recording whenever it detects movement, which includes when I start driving. Has anyone done this and got any feedback? Finally, I am looking into other ways of fixing the camera. Ideally I would place it just behind the drivers side of the mirror, but the windscreen mount is too big to allow this so I might make a custom mount using a strip of aluminium bent into shape and either stick it to the winscreen or screw into the plastic leading up from the rain sensor - any thoughts?

yes the wire is thin - I thought the same, what I did is solder the thin wire to a bit of thicker wire then heat shrink it, To be honest I actually didn't connect mine to the piggy back fuse directly I connected it to spade connectors as I tapped directly into my retrofitted auto-dimming rear view mirror loom and used spade connectors/plastic connector blocks. I would deffo recommend this to ensure there is not too much strain on thoose thin wires and they are reinforced.

Personally I think the cam is better mounted passenger side of the mirror - a few reasons. 1) is means the camera is completely out of view (on my install anyway). 2) there is more space on that side as the rear view mirror tilts towards the driver, which means the gap between the back of the mirror and the windscreen is greater on that side.

As for motion detect - I want to try this (if its possible - not sure it even is) ideally what would happen is ignition would turn off and the camera would then stop recording video and switch to motion detecting still photos on battery power. I don't think you can actually do motion detection recording - its still photos (could be wrong I will have to double check)

James, see this thread regarding motion detection. Quite interesting:

Cheers Byron, good info there, so basically with an ignition switched set up its not even possible as it disables the auto power on/off function - pity that, but the auto switch on/off is way more important to me as it makes the cam a fit and forget solution.

I believe it is possible, when you turn your ignition on the camera will not turn on until you are moving as then it detects motion

When parked up it will do the same, when someone walks past your car it will turn on then shut down shortly after

Give it a test :)

I've been using the SJ1000 camera as my dash cam for a good 9 months and I'm very impressed with it. It costs a tenner more than the Mobius but comes with an underwater housing, a battery that will run the camera for well over two hours and it also had a colour rear screen (viewfinder). Takes great 5mp stills, too. The frame I attach here is taken from the movie timeline. You'll recognise the Fiesta dash panel and the A pillar reflections.

If you'd like to read my review of this remarkable camera, go here:

Thanks for that.

Thats interesting - I originally thought of tapping into the courtesy lights on the roof but was pursuaded to run the cable back to the fuseboard. I have the auto-dimming mirror and rain sensor as standard in ghia spec and it might be easier to tap into them if its possible - what do you think?

You are right about the mirror tilt giving more room on the passenger side, but it just seems more exposed there. I will play about with various options before I stick anything permenently in place to get the best combination.

I will play with the settings and try the motion detection, but as you say, the most important is that it is reliable in filming automatically with no fiddling around day to day.

Before making my purchase i did months of research i considered many cameras and i also watched alot of youtube videos. Techmoan is the best and most reliable none bias youtube reviewer with dashcams on the internet, he review many cameras and all his reviews show what a camera is capable of in the most important conditions, direct sunlight, night time, and daytime/cloudy.

Most dashcams wash out in direct sunlight where a large white blurry patch appears others have random colour changes the mobius does none of that, it auto adjust to light very quickly.

Watch my daytime video below, from the 2:00 marker you can see exactly what direct sunlight looks like, as james said it is possible to improve direct sunlight by manually adjusting it, i left mine standard, that being said finding a camera beating that sort of video quality in direct sunlight is almost impossible regardless of how much you're willing to spend., reading number plates seem to be one of the hardest jobs for a dashcam, if your own eyes cannot read a number plate in direct sunlight the mobius or any other cam stands no chance sadly.

Motion detection is a funny one because at times it can be unreliable, by the time the camera detects motion and starts up then starts recording alot of action could be missed, it is also possible for your camera to not react where everything looks the same such as a tunnel. After watching many reviews about motion detection from varies camera i gave it a miss but don't let that put you off, give it a try and share your experience with us i'm sure there are several people who would be interested in how good this feature is in the real world including myself.

Hi guys.

is a great thread and I have now received my Mobius and other bits and

pieces to hard wire this using a piggy back to the fuse holder. The

wire from the USB lead looks very thin comapred with the fuse tap - did

and either stick it to the winscreen or screw into the plastic leading

up from the rain sensor - any thoughts?

The cable is thin indeed and for a good reason. It actually felt thicker to me than i expected... (compared to cables for my puddle light mod) It's rated at a max 3AMP of current, most usb devices including the mobius camera uses 0.5AMP of current well within the rated allowance, for the sake of crimping this rather thin cable i doubled up and folded it over thickening up the end that goes into the crimp for a better connection.

I had no issues at all hard wiring it, infact i stripped back the outer insulation of the cables ripping it using those thin wires and they did not break, sucess.

I have the rain sensor in my car too and it does truly take up usable space for the camera but i cannot recommend you putting the camera on the drivers side it will be inside of "Zone A" that is the wiped area of the drivers view. Your car will fail MOT for this plus it might be distracting.

If you do use a bent piece of metal as a mount, be very careful where your !Removed!, you may damage the rain sensor, i would say get some double side sticky tape instead.

Give motion detection a go first before hardwiring into your mirror or any other parts that require splicing into any cables. That is the nice part about this whole piggyback fuse set up there is no cutting of any wires at all on the car not even the earth it. My camera is earth near by the PJB onto an earthing point. If you are concerned that it may be a difficult or demanding job running your wiring to the PJB i can assure you it's the easiest mod i have done to date

EDIT: The wiring kit has a rating of 3AMP i suggest using a 3AMP fuse instead of 5A i will be changing mine to 3A, Not to worry though the circuit could handle 4 Mobius camera with enough left for any power surges using a 3A Fuse. This is important because using a fuse too big is the same as not using any fuse at all

Good point. I thought that adjusting the settings would help more, but in the past tweaking it didn't seem to help.

My cam behaves similarly to yours as shown in the video. If you notice, you cannot make out the number plate of the scummy Corsa driver until the cars (and thus the camera) enters the shade.

Nice music by the way, haha.

yeah it all got a bit dark, i don't trust myself to mess with brightness adjustment tbh and thanks bud, nelly is a cool chick and that corsa driver was a real tool, wearing a vest, sun shades, on his phone, acting like a fool, none of that is visible from the cam though

Here's a couple of example vids from mine. Second video is driving towards sun, it's very hard to adjust a camera to avoid blacking out. There is a tip I've heard of where you can buy a polarised filter, cut a hole out the lens cap and make a diy filter.

See here - http://forum.dashcamtalk.com/threads/polarising-filter-done.2776/#post-31710

This was from a guy on the dash cam forums

is it me or did the dude with the cam go through a red light too? I'm not really ofey with American signals/junctions etc though

No, if you look carefully when he approaches they do change. I initially thought this as well :)

When i drove in LA i was getting horned at all the time, they have that rule where you can turn right on a red light. It actually works though and reduces queuing a lot.

Anyone tried a 64GB card in theirs? My 16GB only gets me just over 2 hours recording.
