Although not specifically about dashcams I thought y'all might find this article interesting http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/insurance/motorinsurance/10795545/Blackbox-exposes-a-54000-car-insurance-fraud.html

Note the line "This month Swiftcover.com offered customers a 10pc discount if they install a dashboard camera in their car."  ;)

that one works :D

Makes for a good read, shows that the black box was for once useful! imagine that poor drivers premiums after that claim goes through!

Daft that they even considered making such a foolish claim.

I should really give my insurer a call and see if I can get a discount for having a dash cam

Need to hardwire mine in, hopefully tomorrow! Haven't actually had it plugged in for a good few weeks so need to get it done!

Just bought a cheapo cam from eBay (£6!) for the rear - I don't expect to need massive quality but it'd be nice to have both front and back - plan to hardwire that one into the cigarette lighter socket.

All I need now is a sticker! (No I'm not that sad!)

Just a quick reminder to update your time due to BST coming in last week. Prob quite important to have accurate time if videos are going to be used as evidence etc. As my camera has been fit an forget I didn't realise I needed to do it until I wanted to pull a video off the device today.

The only way I could work out to do it was to reflash the latest firmware (v1.20 at time of posting), I assumed it would update when plugged into the PC, but no joy with me

Should it ever come to it, just point out that you leave the camera to work in "Zulu-time"
That also covers you should you be abroad - make note of the time difference and the camera timings are easily converted +/- the difference.

It'll save you !Removed!-!Removed! around twice a year to change it.

As expected, it's basically old webcam quality. Had a lot of noise on the video last night (using the supplied USB car adapter) so I'll get a video today with a better quality one. Large but sturdy and adjustable mount supplied and takes a standard SD card.

I've also noticed two out of four of the ir LEDs are always on - so I'm using insulating tape over them to stop it reflecting off the windscreen.

For £6 I ain't complaining - even if I don't use it in the car its useful to have a camera sensitive to IR (stealth night missions anyone? ;-) )

Sounds like a good alternative to rear view cam. I will waut for preview although I know youtube will limit the quality anyways

Definately interested to see the quality! to be honest, even a poor quality video can still be useful in the event its needed as evidence, but of course, the better the quality the better the chances of a result!
