jeebowhite
definitely! its always worth a phone call, worst case you dont get it cheaper than you would have liked, but you can always get it cheaper than your renewal price! SeanW
I ring 'em up, all goes swimmingly...and then they ask my Postcode...most insurers ask me to confirm what my renewal/cheapest quotes have been. (£750 ish and £500 respectively). "Ahh...we can't get anywhere near that, even after applying all the discounts we can offer!" 1300-1500 being the general range. Chap from Admiral (last years insurer) confirmed it's the area that's done it. Used to be a bad area for car crime & accidents...insurance companies haven't caught up yet

SeanW
Meh - not yet lol Managed to get it down to £475 with Top Cashback - which is only £150 more than my Dad pays on his Grandpa-mobile with 6 points and 40 years driving lol (Although same NCD as me - he went 3 years without a car)
Marks12
for this year im paying 756 euro thats cause im paying monthly for if i chose to pay up front i'd be paying 700 and thats just third party fire and theft. I am driving a 1.8 tdci zetec focus and i have a 5 year NCB years ago i had a 94 volkswagen golf 1.9 standard diesel (no turbo) was paying 900 for this. Anyway i wrote the car off when i plowed into a ford transit van (it was a company van so i assumed i was screwed) lucky for me the driver was nice he didnt take it through the insurance company either did his boss they never even made me pay for the damages which was nice. Anyway i got myself a 1.3 toyota starlet and my insurance didnt budge i asked "why isn't it coming down as its a smaller car with a smaller engine size?" too which they replied " we have to think about the safety of the vehicle, as its a small car it isn't considered to be the safest and also the miles on the car also (76k kilometres was on it at the time which isn't much) also have too think about the amount of miles you are going to do over a year (which again wasnt much i was unemployed at the time) that also came into it. considering i was receiving 100euro a week from the social welfare i was under pressure trying to get jobs that didnt exist and in the mean time get screwed by my insurance company (which i am still with as they are the only insurance company that will allow me to drive any car as long as i have the owners permission with just a full licence the other i had to be 25+) of course once i am 25 i will be shopping around but i will expect my insurance to come down a lot hopefully. I am not too sure if it makes a difference over here were we live as the area i live in is a ripe area for car theft all the houses on my road was hit with burglaries which resulted in 3 cars being robbed including my mams ford focus front fog light (god only knows why just the fog light my neighbour caught them in the act haha he was surprised) insurance no matter where u are from they are all companies set up by con men. Marks12
Its amazing what you can get off insurance by picking up the blower... I'm 21, coming up to 22 with near on 3 years NCB on my policy, when I got my renewal for my zs tdci *March* (Ins group 8) it was around £750.. £50 lower than the previous year Long story short I picked up the phone as a very disgruntled customer, rang diamond (I have 3 women on my policy, I'm a player I know ;) ) and basically told them I'd spoken to Aviva who could insure me for what I thought was a reasonable price to pay (£500) and then proceeded to tell them they'd have to beat this if I were to stay with them. 2 minutes later the guy on the end of the phone quoted me £550 took £x off for a 'loyalty bonus' £x discount for paying by diect debit then when I was satisfied that was the best he could do I agreed... *Ended up being £430 for the year*Took about 15 minutes of my time, hadn't even spoken to Aviva!! They'll always try to make you pay as much as possible unless you kick up a fuss, then they'll move heaven and earth to keep you. Rang up yesterday to insure my new ST3 and was pleasantly surprised when my DD payments only went up by £9 p/m *Works out at just over £100 extra for the year :) They tend to rely on people to just say 'Shut up and take my money' when renewals come through the post thinking that paying say, £50 off represents a good deal but just shop around and its easy to get a far better deal, even if you have to convince them to give it to you ^_^ B) well this year i didnt pick up the phone when renewal came around i also had a new car worth more than the old one by a lot. my Premium actually dropped a good bit. I have been with this company since i started driving for the simple reason they beat every quote i ever got and i didnt have to pick up the phone they usually sent what they offered out through the post a few weeks before renewal so I could see if the others would match it or beat it. My insurance company beat them everytime they are Liberty insurance

dmizz93
Not bad! I was surprised how little mine went up going from a ZS tdci to the ST.. Guy on the phone said newer cars are generally cheaper to insure even when in higher insurance groups due to safety features etc.. I'll have to give them a look when my renewal comes round Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

A car is rated on how much accident it's had because some cars are involved in more than others and that makes it a high risk vehicle but if there is no list for a new car they can't class it as anything

TomsFocus
22, 5NCB, £270 the year. :D Though I have kept it standard for that reason, engine mods were adding a huge amount to my previous cars! That's still not cheap though, before the Focus I bought (in a moment of madness!) a year old Peugoet 107....insurance for the year, £182!! jeebowhite
That I'd painfully cheap. My mods add nothing to the unstable and 25 with 5 or 6 years ncb I'm still being bent over for plus

My mods add nothing to the unstable and 25 with 5 or 6 years ncb I'm still being bent over for plus 600 That is expensive, because of your area? I'm same age with only 4 years NCB and paid about £350 for my car with all mods declared

thatfiestaguy
I feel the pain of insurance tbh. Could always come live in Croydon, we are the nations hotspot for anything extortionate relating to running a car. Mine started off at about £600 for year, would have been around £500 but i pay monthly. Have a secure underground garage which knocked about £40 off the total cost. Insurance has only gone up by £60 with all the mods I've done and declared. I'm definitely gonna shop around come renewal in May see if I can get cheaper than Esure. You live in Croydon? Whereabouts.. ? I work there!
