Thetoothfairy
Hi I am looking for advice. I have a 2001 mondeo Gia x and it's done around 100k miles. Since August 2012 it has been making a loud noise when driving over 35 mph. The 2012 mot checked the wheel bearings specifically and found nothing wrong. They put the noise down to tyre noise. Since then, the car has just got louder and louder. It's very bad between 35 and 40mph and then very bad at 70, although is noisy at the speeds in between. At the weekend, I actually ducked thinking there was a low flying aircraft overhead...only to realise that was the noise! To note, the car failed its mot last year (passed on second test) due to emissions. I've no idea if this is related. Can anyone please advise on my next steps? Should I be looking for a new car!? Thanks
BigD
Not sure on the emissions thing, never had a car fail for that. I'd imagine the noise you can hear is a split pipe - probably the intercooler one. The noise is air rushing out of it.
btmaldon
Could be a bearing if it is not engine related.
