Mondeo 2.0 Tdci Blanked Egr - Worth Replacing Egr Still?

I've got an 06 Mondeo TDCI 2.0.

I've recently blanked the EGR valve due to filling my rear view mirrow with plumes of smoke. Since blanking the EGR the plumes of smoke have stopped except for a small amount if I really boot it which I assume is pretty normal for a diesel.

As mine isa euro 4 spec the EML keeps coming on and I keep resetting it. I'm wondering if I change the EGR for a new one will the heaving smoking return or was it likely it was smoking as the EGR wasn't shutting/working correctly?

I have checked the main air hose to the intercooler and it contained no splits (yes it was removed for checking). Could any other hoses be contributing to heavy smoke now the EGR has been blanked or was it likely the EGR was the main cause of this?

I'm just trying to get to the underlying problem. I know most will say to keep the blank in but I like things right. I see many other Mondeo TDCI's around that don't smoke.

The EGR will probably be chock-full of carbon, causing the smoke.

There's no point replacing it, for two reasons. First, there's nothing [probably] wrong with it that a good clean wouldn't fix. Second, you've blanked it anyway, so it's not doing anything.

I would say dont bother getting a new egr and just clear the EML once a week (or in my case once a month lol) to check there are no other faults.

I had the same problem, and after several trips to ford, where they replaced the egr and several other related parts hoses etc, smoke still poured out the back (to the point of completely engulfing any cars behind me). The chief ford mech at my local dealers eneded up blanking the EGR himself and there hasnt been a whiff od black smoke since.

I have since replace the tin can he used with some 4mm stainless at the egr and the exhaust end and removed the metal connecting pipe to give more space if I want to work on the engine.

Changing the egr may stop the smoke but if your not bothered about clearing the EML occasionally, then I wouldnt bother paying so much money out iftheres a chance it may not work.

If for some reason you do decide to replace the EGR, get one from Jaguar. Identical part, half the price.

I've blanked mine and I clear it often, but if you leave it on it will go off on its own but when you put your reader in the fault still shows.

I have heard that mentioned before, but I left mine for 3 months and the light never went out.

The EGR was cleaned out just after I bought the car and then again about 2/3000 miles ago.

I have seen EGR valves on eBay for about £50 brand new but I was a bit iffy over the quality

Mines just come back on lol ill leave it a few more days and see if it goes off again

keep it blanked i bought a new egr valve and within a couple of months had same trouble so i blanked mine off i have been lucky the eml hasn`t come on but i have been advised if it does and keeps coming on after i reset it to get the car remapped where they can knock the egr of the ecu so no longer problems with eml....i would say don`t let the light bover you but if its always on due to egr valve blanked how will you know if there maybe other thoughts unless you was to run a diagnostic test on a daily basis specially as Ford is initialled for Fix Or Repair Daily to be honest my mondeo 2.0 tdci is the worst ford i have ever owned should of got the tddi

No one has been able to do this on a mk3 Mondeo, other cars, but not the mk3 - these claims have turned out to be false, to my knowlege - if someone does this sucsessfully, let me know

Even If you fit a brand new EGR valve, the EML is likely to still come on anyway with a solid plate fitted

A car with a solid ERG blanking plate fitted will run much better than one with a working EGR,(even a brand new EGR) with better pickup from low revs, less hesitation, less flat spots, and tess turbo lag, and less smoke, no contamination of the inlet, and potential long term damage to the turbo

The Euro4 Mondeo is different from the Focus, as others have said, the EML is liable to stay on in the Euro4 Mondeo
