Put a new air filter in today. No prizes for guessing which is the old one and which is the new! Given the state of it I think it's ready for a good service, so going to get it down the garage to get them to do the oil and the other filters. Took it for a run afterwards though and it definitly ran a little smoother and seemed to have a bit more power (not that it's bad in either respect anyway).

Also, what is it with the filters seeming to get squashed and bent? The old one was like that before I removed it, so it wasn't during removal. Don't know if it's the stock filters being weak, or if there are a lot of ham fisted mechanics out their.

probably lazy ham fisted mechanics!

Good job though, it always seems satisfying changing the old dirty filters

My opinion on the squashed and bent filters is the filters are slightly too long and have to be squashed in in order to fit the lip of the end plate into the grove on the airbox. My paper one was squashed up and my k&n was an ultra tight fit.
