WAZ91
Hi All, Just a quick one. i need to replace front brake discs and have been asked which size i need? the choice was 278mm or 300mm? its a good £20 differance between them too! the car is bog standard MK2.5 Zetec with 16" rims, I would just pop a wheel off and check but when i get home from work its dark! Thanks for the help

JW1982
The front disc diameter depends on the engine type. On the 1.4, 1.6 Duratec, 1.8 Duratec HE Petrol engines and 1.6 TDCI Diesel engines the front disc diameter is 278 mm. On the 2.0 Duratec HE Petrol engines and 1.8 and 2.0 TDCI Diesel engines the dront disc diameter is 300 mm.

WAZ91
Just to bring this up again :P what size should the rears be? 265mm 280mm guessing the 280?
JW1982
It depends on the size of the front brake discs. If the car has 278 mm front discs the rear discs are 265 mm. If the car has 300 mm front discs the rear discs are 280 mm. Installing the wrong size brake discs at the rear (in relation to the front disc size) will result in an incorrect brake distribution. The 1.8 TDCI should have 300 mm brake disc at the front and 280 mm brake discs at the rear but you should check the size before ordering brake discs
WAZ91
I thought it would be the larger ones made sense with the fronts being 300mm, but just wanted to check :)
