Fuel consumption figure ?

For a Ford Focus 1.8 (petrol) 79k miles what would the mpg be for purely urban driving ?

I have read that it should be about 27 mpg but I often get 25-26 mpg when I only do town driving.

Does anyone know what the conditions are when the car companies test the fuel consumption of cars ?

Also I live in devon (UK) and each day I have to drive up at least 2 hills in order to get to my house.

Do you think the figures the company give include driving up any hills and also take into account air conditioning use ?

Figures are produced on rolling roads in test centres. So your figures are quite accurate for Ford.

Ford and many other companies used to perform tests drving at a slightly lower then average speed as well as not running he AC at all or barely but typically not full out.

In the past 4-5 years i believe they were forced to road test vehicles under actual conditions.

Yours seems right where it should be. All depending on age, running condition, weight of driver, weather, road conditions, amount of AC being used, Rate of acceleration, how you drive your focus all factor into this. Seeing as how you ae only under the mark by 1mpg i would venture to say your touching your little pedal to the right just a tad more then the test driver was B)

dont worry about the fuel consumption figures given by any company, i dont think they do real world, even now. its all done in a lab. your doing really good getting that close to the official figures. usually, in real world you are about 10% out on the official figures, in general.
