Just saw an advert on the TV for the Ford SYNC with Txt Reader

Is that standard with any spec Fiesta which has SYNC ?

Quite sure it is. If I'm not mistaken it has some compatibility issues with iPhones, though.

Sync does have it, but only certain phone compatibility, ford.co.uk provides a list of comparable phones

For such a 'wonderful' (b****y expensive) phone it does seem to have a lot of compatibility problems with other tech.

It doesn't even work well with iTunes FFS!

Give me Android any day.

I think probably cause at least for now Ford use Microsoft and likely to change to Blackberry soon...

Clive you are absolutely right, but once you get an iPhone Apple seem to have you by the short and curlys I never thought I would succumb but I've been suckered in.

I have an iPod touch 4 that now lives in the car permanently purely for internet radio, all removable apps stripped out.

Being basically tied to iTunes for music transfer was a pita plus iTunes doesn't seem to understand the principle of compilation albums and throws all my music into seperate folders.

With my S3 I just drag and drop music to it with no problems and it's much faster.

There are third party software you can use to to sync songs also you can just drag and drop just the folder is hidden

That could be quite embarrassing if a text lands that you don't really want passengers to hear

It only reads them if you choose listen though ? On my iPhone 5s that's what it does anyway. I have to press read or listen etc when it comes up.

best alternative IMHO is a program called Vlingo (rebranded Dragon) it does the text read and write and costs a few quid rather than hundreds for the new car!

Currently ford sync allows playback of texts but doesn't allow you to reply with your voice..

Frozen White Fiesta 2013

Mine does. I have a Nokia Lumia 820 and it works fine. I replied to a colleague this morning when he text me and asked me to stop for milk. I replied and told him I had got some and he text back with "you are a star" so I replied "I know !" except it sent "I know exclamation mark" ..... think it got lost in translation somewhere !!! At least he got it tho, but he did think I had gone mad !!!!

Maybe it's something to do with the last update on my phone. I now have an application called Driving Mode. When i get in the car a wee car symbol comes up on my phone. Before that, my phone book didn't even download and any calls and texts coming in showed as Unknown. Now my phonebook shows up in the car as well which pleases me no end ! No point in having SYNC if it doesn't work properly.

Gonna try this with my Samsung later :)

Hope it works for you. It just seems to be a shame to have such a great facility as SYNC and not be able to use it to it's full potential. Now I just need to practice talking the Queens English, as I think it struggles with my Aberdeen accent !!!!

So when you get a text how do you reply with a voice to text message, what's the voice command? :)

Well, when a text comes in it gives you the option of whether to read it out or not, and I said I wanted it read out, then it gives you options to reply, ignore and finish or something. I can't remember exactly if i'm being honest. If you can't get yours to work later on, i'll have to sit in my car and get someone to text me, and i'll take notice this time and let you know.

I'm not sure the whole text from the car thing will be a 100% success tho, and maybe just ok if in a hurry, coz when I said exclamation mark, I kinda hoped it would put in a ! and not the words, so don't know what would happen if it was a longer text that needed full stops etc !!!! On this app on my phone, I can also set it to send an automatic text if i'm driving. it says "Driving at the moment - i'll get back to you later. (Automatically sent from driving Mode on my Windows Phone.)" I just found that actually !
