Hi All

I have just opened the bonnet on my 2007 focus estate 1.8 tdci and now the warning light on the dash won't go off it just says "bonnet open" the Bonney closes fine and you can hear it lock, I have tried WD40 in the switch but still stays on.

Any suggestions welcome

WD40 on a switch is a bad idea, it can damage the switch and cause you more issues than anything else!

I suspect you will need to replace the switch itself if its still not working.

Just thinking about it, you will likely need a full assembly, as the switch I believe is integrated into this.

Just had a look at it and think I'm going to have a go at taking that unit apart and recon it see if that does the job

I have the same issue and can confirm, unfortunately, that my problem only started when I thought I'd do the lock and sensor a "good turn" and lubricate it thoroughly with WD40!

I have since sprayed it again with electrical contact cleaner and thoroughly cleaned the bullet switch but the light is still on.

The wd40 may have caused more harm than good to the microswitch

After a while the switch has righted itself and the bonnet warning light is now out again.

I will NOT be lubricating it with WD40 EVER again!
