artscot79
after reading so many posts about these bulbs i bit the bullet and bought them and i have to be honest guys they arent what i expected from the reviews i use these bulbs http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H7-H1-H8-55w-Xenon-Headlight-Bulbs-High-Low-Fog-Beam-Main-Dip-Fog-White-Light-/330853551948?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AFord|Plat_Gen%3AMK+II|Model%3AFocus&hash=item4d08688f4c which i have to say are as bright but much whiter than the osrams and since ive had them over a year will likely last even longer yet for the price of the osrams i got that entire kit which has all passed an mot the only change is the sidelights which were replaced with diamond white ones the osrams are still yellow compared to the above bulbs not a fan and they certainly dont prove that a brand name is better im going back to my old bulbs and sending the osrams back

Silly question but are they legal...?

btmaldon
Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking about getting those for the wifes car but may just put some Osram Ultimates in. I don't fancy the bluish light anyway.
mjt
The blue filter layer on these lamps is intended to make the output look whiter by absorbing wavelengths in the yellow region which is where the light output peaks so they must actually give less light than bog standard ones of the same wattage. The energy absorbed will also make the envelope hotter. The only way to get a whiter light without these absorption losses is to run the filament at a much higher temperature which will inevitably shorten its life.
artscot79
The old ones i can confirm arent as hot as the osram are far whiter and illuminate the same amount if road the osrams are over priced and junk compared to the ones ive always used for me its a simple fact that the name the price and the claim is hype cheaper bulbs are just as good if not better cheaper and last longer given ive had the old ones over a year and use them every day i bet they outlast the osrams as well
stef123
Arthur what sidelights are you using? I need to get some for the bike but struggling to find any good 'white' ones. Don't want led though.
artscot79
i use these although they are blue when switched on they are not so pass the mot no problem http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ULTRA-AUTO-XENON-DIAMOND-EXTREME-WHITE-501-W5W-SIDE-LIGHT-BULB-BULBS-A-PAIR-/370660591316?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item564d17c6d4
stef123
Cool mate I will maybe try those. The ones I'm using on the bike are blue also but have a horrible colour when on and not totally white.
Brigante
on your say so arthur mate i purchased a set of these. thought for 15quid for 3 sets of bulbs, 4 if you count the 501's you cant really go wrong if they turn out to be not very good. previously i went from osram cool blue intense h1 and h7 to cool blue hyper h7, the hypers was a lot whiter than intense but didnt seem that bright at all really so i quickly went back to the intense h7 andswapped the intense h1 for nightbreaker unlimiteds. fancied some whiter fogs also, thought about cree's but thought i may as well give these a go first. fitted the 3 sets earlier and went for a quick drive round the block for a quick test run. have to say first impressions these h7s do seem a lot brighter and whiter than the cool blue intense h7, even the missus agrees. will have to go for a proper run sometime soon to test how right they actually are on unlit country roads to see if they let me down. not sure if the fogs seem that white but they certainly are whiter than me standard ford osram fogs that was in there how do you find the light on the road from these h1s on unlit country roads mate? there was nothing wrong with the nightbreaker unlimiteds i had in as they was still brand new so i may end up swapping back to them and keeping these as spares but thought i'd give em a go for now as they are whiter. artscot79
I drive unlit country roads to work i never need to use high beams i have no issues light wise from them the high beams light up so much so far when they are needed that they will do very well For me the whiter light on unlit roads shows up more than the osram which are still kind of yellow lighting up the road
btmaldon
I never had an issue with Osram nightbreakers. Never had one blow. Much brighter/sharper light than standards and at only £12 a pair were pretty cheap. However my cars are always garaged and may be a damp atmosphere if left outside increases the number of failures. artscot79
they last shorter than normal bulbs but the ones i use last longer yet are far brighter each persons choice all im saying is there is better at a far cheaper price that i know last well and work
