Chris_pickford94
Not sure if this is in the correct section But I was cleaning my wheels today and thought I'd have a look at the brake pads to see how much life they had left in them I noticed that the pads had a sort of slant on them which meant that only around half of the area of the pad was actually pressing against the disc when the brakes are applied They have plenty of life left in them but seems strange This is the same on both sides but can't see any reason for why they would be like this, would seem like a really inefficient way for ford to make them Just wondering if anyone could say whether this is the same on there's or whether it would be worth me replacing the pads if there not meant to be like this Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
artscot79
thats how they are from the box its to allow the movement of air through the pad as they are always in contact with the disk otherwise they would over heat and not work at all
Chris_pickford94
Thanks for your reply, never seen them like this before And definitely didn't used to be like that on my fiesta Surely this means you only have around 50% of the braking power because of this (not including the possibility of them overheating) Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
artscot79
no when you press the brake they fully contact the disk all cars are like this by having a small amount of pad on contact it heats up since brakes work effectively when warmed up too warm will cause braking to fade hence the gap all focis have it i can assure you if you look at a pic of the pads they are chamfered on the edge like this
