New ECU???

Hi all,

I am a new owner of a 54 reg silver StreetKa. I viewed and purchased the car on friday 15th of May, On the drive home when it got dark I noticed the engine management light was on but it was very dim you could hardly see it, I called the sellers as soon as I got home and they said they had never noticed it.

Being slightly concerned I took it to a garage on Saturday and the mechanic took the dash off and pulled the cluster out to find a small peice of black tape had been placed over the light to hide it!

I again called the sellers who now are no longer answering my calls and have sent me an email saying it is no longer their problem and not to contact them again.

I am heartbroken that I have a bought my dream car from such dishonest devious people and have been advised its most likely the ECU needs replacing.

Does anyone know if I can do anything to get some money back from these people to pay for the costs of their cover up, Or do I need to except it and deal with it myself?

Also if it is the ECU is it expensive to fix?

Appreciate any advice you can give me.

Kind regards

Lauz

Im afraid as i understand it ECU,s are very expensive to buy and replace. You should take evidence of their deception wtih written statement from mechanic who found the tape in place to citizens advice. I think they will recomend you take the person to small claims court. Hope this helps. some people in this world are truly not nice.

Thank you for your advice I have been on the phone to citizens advice and consumer direct and they have basically said what you said to keep record of everything and send them a letter requesting full refund or at the very least payment for the repairs... We'll see hopefully i'll get it all sorted and be able to enjoy the car in time for summer,.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 4pin O2 sensor or know what voltage should be on the signal wire from the ECU? I have been told this is 5 volts is this true as I am getting 0.05.

Also can you replace the ECU with a second hand one or does this need to be programmed by ford.

Sorry for all the questions just a blonde newbie seeking help.

Hi lauz,

have you not had a diagnostic check on car? it will tell you exactly why they taped over warning light?

i dont think that another ecu will need coding, i'll try to find out a.s.a.p for you.

i would take it back to the people who sold it as the car is not roadworthy which is a legal requirement, get your money back or get them to put it right. somebody knew about the problem hence the black tape.

Thank you so much, yes info definately helps :-). I have had the diagnostic tests it came up with a fault 131 (?-or something similar), which said it was the 02 sensor but that has been checked and is fine thats why its now suspected that its either a break in the signal wire or major ECU problem ( I don't know much about any of this but am learning fast)

I have tried to call and email them & requested my money back, But they are ignoring phone calls and sent me an email saying they had no answers and not to contact them furthur, So i contacted consumer direct and they said these people have to give me my money back or pay for the repairs as they knowingly sold me the car with the light hidden (and they were the only owners from new so denying all knowledge is not really believable!) Nasty people :(

Got hold of a technical service bulletin- from my understanding error code PO131 is can be caused from over heating of the oxygen sensor to rectify this I think i need the updated new oxygen sensor and the PCM to be reprogrammed with revised calibration- Does anyone know the cost of having the PCM reprogrammed,

Thanks again for all your help with this.

Hi lauz,

glad your nearly sorted, give ford a ring and ask them how much to reprogram pcm, then ring your local delphi dealer, should find them in yellow pages etc...

delphi are an approved diesel specialist.. :)
