My ST had a lovely growl while driving around. It growled while drove around normally and driving it fast. Now it's lost it. It was an induction growl. Where has it gone? Silly question but I'd like it back :(

the noise shouldnt really have gone anywhere!

are there any known issues with the symposers on these? the only thing i can think of is to lift up the bonnet and see if the assembly's all still intact?

The Mk3 ST has a system called a "sound symposer" which is simply plastic tubing with a electronically controlled butterfly valve attached which directs the sound of the engine into the cabin to help replace the engine growl that was characteristic on the old 5 pot 2.5L ST lump.

Its possible there is a fault with with the electronic controller causing this tubing to remain shut off!

I think it could be the electrically controlled butterfly value. I'll pop it into ford. Does the car need a good tanking?

On a side note, can you lock it open or get it to open more often?

Its designed to open up under heavy acceleration and stay shut during more moderate driving mate, it was developed that way so you could have the best of both worlds.

its automated for all i know, but a few people ive read about who arent fans of it have located and pulled a fuse (i think, or module) out.

That could be somewhere to check too.

Yeah it's not opening up under load ether. Before pull of gave you a really nice growl and exhaust note.

So you think a fuse in the controller?

Looking on the net. Other people have been having problems with the sound symposer been shut or open all the time. Back to ford I think

Found the fix. Right sometimes the flap gets stuck and the best way to get it moving is to give the car a good spanking.

Right. Bristol street have said, yes there is a problem and there is a Software update coming out in July to fix the issue. All MK3 STs and covered I believe as it is a factory fault.

Hope this info is useful
