jeebowhite
Hi Guys, So, whilst I have been away and quiet over the last month recovering, I purchased myself a 2007 MK IV Mondeo 1.8TDCi, Its a nice car, but comes with a few small niggles as most used cars would! It has done 111,111 miles! The slight irritation I have at the moment, is that on a couple of ocassions, the car appears to struggle to start a little.... As I turn the key over, it ticks over for a second and then seems like its about to stall before returning to full life. Its only happened twice, and I think one of those was me stopping the cranking before it had fully kicked into life, but as the car has a few months of warranty, I am picking up on all these things! So, the car has no error codes, doesnt appear to misbehave generally speaking (a couple of queries to ask but otherwise its good) so I am just wondering if anyone has any thoughts? The service history states that the car has had the DMF and clutch replaced a couple of year ago (Cant remember the exact date) if thats any help! Thanks James
alexp999
Is it worse first thing, when it is cold, etc? Do you have any history on whether the glow plugs have ever been changed?
mick85
They have a wet belt if car don't have full service history with right oil changed at exact interval ford won't stand over time change interval have u checked for any faults yet Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
jeebowhite
Thanks guys, The issue only appears to have been on a couple of cool mornings, this morning it was about 10-12 degrees outside. Mick, I checked but no error codes are showing when I scan them with Torque, I might try and get ELM Config on there, or F Super and see if either report any additional errors, but I think its all ok in that respect. With the car being at 111k, I have thought about the belts, but then it doesnt misbehave any other time, It had a service done just before I bought it, so the juices were replaced... mick85
So do u think it's start motor related is it during cranking process or as it fires up Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
jeebowhite
Seems to be that split second between starter motor kicking the engine into life. I think I need to keep an eye on it to be honest it's probably daft to diagnose it based on the split second experience, I will have to hold the starter for that split longer and see what goes! The glow plug light stays on for about 8 seconds, but I would expect a dtc for that, the starter doesn't have any duff noises before stall noise, and generally it behaves... jeebowhite
I was thinking that to be honest I just have to price them up, and wait till funds are available lol. Are they easy enough? I know the focus mk2 and cmax can strip and separate but wondering if it's the same on the mondy? jeebowhite
Cheers mick, I'm sure Haynes will help when I do it, it's a shame it's not a major issue could have had it fixed under warranty but he won't do it for me on a one off! jeebowhite
Thats true, it will probably be beneficial, I will probably have to allow myself a bit more opportunity to recover before I go diving under the motor!
