On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 there is a high risk of damaging the GEM module/fuse box. On these cars all light functions are controlled by the GEM module/fuse box. The GEM module/fuse box is not designed to handle the extra current of the trailer lights. The extra current may damage the circuit board of the GEM module or in worst case even set the car on fire. A new GEM module/fuse box will cost a lot more money than a bypass relay or a vehicle specific cable kit. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Been towing my shabby old caravan for nearly a year with no ill effects though, thought the relay was for bulb out errors only Thanks!
