Focus Mk 2 Towbar Wiring Help

hello im new to this forum i recently installed a towbar on my mk 2 focus but do i need a bypass relay or not.

any comments would be a big help

wired mine in without bypass relay it all works fine :)

You will need the indicator bleeper tho for mot apparently

You should be very careful with that.

On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 there is a high risk of damaging the GEM module/fuse box. On these cars all light functions are controlled by the GEM module/fuse box. The GEM module/fuse box is not designed to handle the extra current of the trailer lights. The extra current may damage the circuit board of the GEM module or in worst case even set the car on fire.

A new GEM module/fuse box will cost a lot more money than a bypass relay or a vehicle specific cable kit.

Stand corrected! Been towing my shabby old caravan for nearly a year with no ill effects though, thought the relay was for bulb out errors only Thanks!

Hi this is my first post. i have a 2010 focus. Ihave fitted a flange towbar and have ran my cable from the battery to the boot and located the plug in wires. now i have the problem of knowing which colour is going to which bulb? i have a single electrics with a bypass relay. hope this makes sense. any help appreciated :)
