JW1982
The Brake Control Module is integrated on the ABS pump. On some pumps the module is scewed and can be changed. On other pumps the module is riveted and glued and cannot be removed. There are differences between only ABS pumps and IVD (ABS/ESP/TCS) pumps. There are also differences between pre-facelift and facelift pumps. The pump from your eBay link should be for a pre-facelift with IVD. DTC C1288 relates to a faulty pressure sensor of the pump. Most time this fault is caused by faulty hydraulics of the pump. If your pump has a removable module you can change the pump only. Note that after replacing the pump it must be bled using a suitable diagnostic system (the Ford IDS system for example). If the module cannot be removed from the pump you have to change the complete pump/module. Ford offers complete pump/modules which are prefilled with brake fluid. These pumps can be bled the conventional way without the need of a suitable diagnostic system. A new module needs to be programmed to the car. Another possibility is to buy a used pump from a scrap yard. Usually these pumps can be bought for relative little money. Last year I paid only €75,- for a facelift IVD pump/module in mint condition. If stored/transported in the correct position a used pump can be bled the conventional way also.
CaptainPumpWeazle
Please advise: Focus Zetec 2006 1.8 Estate - Petrol Dash indicated fault with ESP system - tracked code to pump module. Removed unit - p/n 3M512C405HB. Unbolted motor, valve manifold/pump and electronic block. I understand faulty sensor is located in unserviceable manifold unit (surprise surprise) so unable to replace component - is there anywhere I can buy the manifold only? Is there a p/n for this assembly? Most of these pump units for the mk2 focus have p/n 3M512M110JA (a slightly smaller unit) Thanks for any advise. JW1982
The ESP (IVD) pump consists of 2 parts. The BCM (brake control module) and the hydraulic unit with pump and valves. The hydraulic unit with pump and valves has part number 8M51-2B373-AA (Finis 1692659) and costs approximately €375,-. Defective sensors/pressure switches are a known problem of this type of pump. Many car manufacturers used this type of pump that is manufactured by ATE. Some companies offer repair services for these ATE pumps. They replace the defective sensors/pressure switches by uprated versions to prevent future problems.
