Luke23 tdci
Advice needed. Got a quote from local ford specialist for a full service on my 2009 1.6 tdc 75.000 miles When he gave me the price I nearly fell over. £1.400 including all major filters ie fuel air pollen oil. Nearly £800 of that was the dpf parts apparently. Do all 1.6 have the dpf filters? The bloke mentioned a dpf removal and re map. What's the pros and cons or that being done. ? Cars completely standard and runs a treat no smoke ever no lose of power.

Luke23 tdci
No this wasn't a main ford dealer. I'm not a fan of them at all. This is a small family run garage that have been ford specialist and rs specialist for over 20 years. Where is the dpf chamber on a focus. ?

Here's my ceramic dpf gutted down to the catalyst This is a piece of the filter Heres two videos of my car after dpf internal removal no smoke http://s575.photobucket.com/user/lennymanwoods/media/VID_20130923_092155_zpsb00a8e8c.mp4.html http://s575.photobucket.com/user/lennymanwoods/media/VID_20130923_092316_zps297a067f.mp4.html

jeebowhite
Just bear in mind that in the UK as of February it is illegal to remove a DPF filter, and it can (if found) be a failure of the MOT and will be very expensive to resolve. Having said that, I havent yet seen anyone on the board say that they failed the MOT with a DPF removal. But since you ask of it, thats the legal side.

jg321
Wow, just shows how clean these engines are in the first place! Impressive stuff. To the OP, I'd have the rest of the service done without the DPF being changed. Only change it when it needs changing is my plan (although I'm way off the 75K mark!).

Don't get me wrong, I love the driving characteristics, torque and economy of our 1.8TDCi but I think diesel emissions are far more injurious to human health than a petrol engine and the measures taken to try to overcome them are both ineffective and expensive. For a long time now I've had the suspicion that the increase in breathing problems such as asthma is at least partly linked to the use of diesel engines, in the haulage industry and public transport as well as increasingly in private cars.
