Hi, I fitted a EGR blanking plate on my 2009 2.0tdci over the weekend. I now keep getting the engine light coming on, I've checked the code p0490 EGR control circuit high. Is this normal after fitting a blanking plate?

Many thanks

Hi it's fitted to the pipe from the EGR to the inlet manifold. There are a couple of links on Lenny's guide on page 6, of where I've fitted it. I don't know how to copy the links

if you fitted a stainless steel and its secured tightly, then it should be fine, just make sure that its tight sealed and it should be OK, but these error codes are not too uncommon with Euro IV onwards engines.

just used that 1 as a example of the layout... as james has said above if it is securly tight there should be no problems.... have you tried disabling it all together..... if the code persists then there are mappers out there that can delete the egr valve from the ecu....

First post I've seen of egr blank on a 2.0L

The dtc makes out there is a pressure sensor somewhere you may just need to map it out unfortunately

Thank gents, it reassured me it's in the right place. Would disconnecting the valve plug cause more problems?

its more on the electronic sensor side..... maybe read up on how to take it off all together, inc the cooler etc...

Removing the connector will most likely kick up an EML fault.

Is your turbo making anymore sound than normal?

Another option might just be a blanking plate with a hole in it although they seem sort of pointless but it may release some pressure and it would be a cheap way of going at the problem

Hi I've removed the blanking plate for whilst I look into it more. I think the turbo was making a bit more noise.

The only other thing I was thinking is that maybe the plate should be fitted before the EGR valve not after on pipe to the inlet As shown in the link.

If that makes sense

Hi happy new year to you all. Sorry to bring up an old thread. Has anyone blanked off there EGR valve on a 2.0 tdci where the cooler bolts to the exhaust manifold? Most pics show after the EGR but I'm looking to Blank mine without the eml light coming on.

Many thanks

I've got the same engine.

My plate is after the EGR valve and before the recirculating pipe that goes over the top of the engine. It is stainless steel and does not have a hole.

My car kicks up the same error every now and then. A lot less so recently than it used to. I've not noticed any problems, Before I had to clear the code, now the car clears its self.

Have either of you every tried removing the EGR Valve to clean it?

I haven't done myself. I was going to squirt some EGR cleaner down it and leave it at that. I intended to have the thing removed electronically so that the car doesn't know it is there.

I've heard about the 2.0TDCi throwing up the error codes and don't want to go through the hassle of getting it mapped out of the ECU.

I regularly (12 months or so) used to remove the EGR Valve from my Laguna which was simple to do but now this engine is a nightmare to get to. Did think about squirting some cleaner into the top of the EGR but with seeing the crap that can come out I don't fancy that floating around the engine!!!

No really guides around for the 2.0TDCi either which isn't helpful lol

Hi I've never removed the EGR to clean it. The main reasons I want to blank it is, to stop black sooty crap being pumped back into the engine, secondly I'm hoping it might help cure "rough running" at about 1800rpm. It happens at any speed but Pacifically at 1800rpm. Any other suggestions to was could cause this?

Is that with a largish amount of power during acceleration? Mine does it after it's remap. I think it is the fly wheel protesting a bit.

I've been read up some more on the cleaning of the EGR Valve - not much out there. But if I do manage it I'll sort out a How To Guide

Mines fine whilst accelerating, it's when your cruising at a set speed.

I believe there are two locations where the EGR can be blanked on the 2.0TDCi

As in: there's two locations where the flange is the same.

Noe somewhere between these two locations is a pressure sensor which is triggered of course when the flange further up the line is blanked,

However: if the egr system is blanked as close to the exhaust as possible then the pressure wont build around the sensor location.

Sadly ive not been near a 2.0TDCi to show anyone where it is though.

I'm trying to quote post #20

tract

Thanks for the links mate but unfortunately they don't work....I've previously followed the Haynes Manual upto the point of slackening the lower retaining bolt which I couldn't find at the time but now I have found out where it is so should now be do able.
