I know its summer so this post maybe strange.

Ive had my Escort 55 Van for a couple of months and have noticed that the heater is very warm. It stays luke warm for about 30 seconds and then goes cold. Obvioulsy I want to sort this out before the winter comes.

Could this be as simple as changing the thermostat?

In the engine bay at the bulkhead there are two water pipes
that go in to a valve this valve sometimes gets stuck.
You need to strip it to see if its working
but you will lose some coolent whe you take off the pipes
happened on my son in laws 55 van
freed valve and it worked fine after that hope this helps.
