Personal Service Records??

just serviced my car at home myself and I made up a service reminder window sticker which got me thinking.....

Does anybody keep any kind of personal service record for their car when they do any work or services?

I really like the way that the ford dealers give you the paper work of what was done after a service and its all nice and neat (except when you see the price ££££ lol!) .

I used to just note down on a piece of paper what wok i did and the date for my old fiesta and escorts in the 1990's but now I have made a folder to keep any receipts of work or parts bought and have printed off from ford etis the service schedule , as well as that i have made a paint and body check sheet and a visual health check sheet just to keep all tidy and so that i came refer to it to check what I i did when i did it.

I have also dome the same for my brothers car and my father in laws car as its myself who services them so it helps me keep track of what was done.

so does anyone keep any personal service records and if so how do you organize them ect?

also just for the sake of it whats the oldest record you have or whats the first bit of work you ever did on any ford?

Mines was a wheel change on a 1988 escort lol!

The first thing I ever done on a ford was when I was 17 on my 1993 fiesta was changing the alloys over.

I never really thought about keeping a record for what I do on the car. I suppose it's all up in my head. (still young enough to have a good memory at 26) lol.

It's not a bad idea though.

Even though it is not going to count to a full service history (officially) when you come to sell the car it shows the potential buyer you must look after it if you have taken the time to do a schedule etc.

I'm lucky enough to know a mechanic who will just stamp my book for me as and when I need it done.

I've got every receipt for everything I have bought/had done to the car since I bought it (2 years ago). When I say everything, I mean everything, bulbs, coolant, filters, Speakers, paint, belts, tyres and the thing that the break down man gives you to sign. Even got every receipt for every tank of fuel I have put in - all from the same place. Sad I know. Also got a spreadsheet going of how much I've spent and the date I bought each item :)

Got every tax disc from when it was new in a frame - very sad.

Keeps me happy though :P

I keep a word document for each of our cars. I put down the Month, Year and mileage. Then list the work done or parts replaced as I go along.

When I come to sell the car I give them a printout along with all the other paperwork, invoices, service records etc.

Some great replies guys thanks. I never thought about the tax disc or fuel receipts idea but I bet if u added them all up it would be a shock to all lol!

Yeah I think a record of work and receipts of parts etc is good to show as proof of whats been done and if you sell on then it might give the news buyers confidence that the cars been well liked after.

Keep up the good work guys.

I have always with all my cars kept a folder with everything I buy for it service wise including dealer service and parts bought. That way a buyer will have confidence in work done outside of a dealer nothing hidden

I've got receipts for everything and a little notebook that I record every bit of work I do/have done to the car.

I don't keep old tax discs or fuel receipts though
