Mk5 Fiesta - Picking It Up At The Weekend :)

Won this on an eBay auction the other day, looked too good to not buy! Not to replace my MK3 (doubt I'll be selling that for a long time - the condition is too good).

If the insurance works out I might drive this one instead.

Seems like a decent little car, £190 with tax and MOT (albeit short). 77,000 miles and the interior looks unmarked. The usual rust issues though.

Just need to stick a zetec s bodykit on it :)

£190!? No way.. What a steal! Haha hope there's nothing mechanically wrong with it for your sake mate! Worst comes to worst gives you an excuse to drop a Puma's lump in there ;) haha

Looks great! Lots to be done on these cars to help them. Not sure on the Zetec S bodykit on non Zetec S cars, but that's just me. A rear spoiler looks good though! Also I'm sure you know as a mk3 owner but clean out the rear arches, it helps stop the rust forming then rusting through. A set of vented discs that come on the 1.25's also will help on braking at high speeds.

This would be a big help for you pal, since it's all done on a mk 5 finesse it will work on yours! Then you can whack some miles on it to keep them off of the mk 3. :) You could keep the mk 3 on a classic car policy if funds allow then keep driving it on nice days?

How on earth did you pick this bargain up, must have been on only 30 seconds when you saw it...

I think the only problem is knocking from the front when going over speed bumps. But I've just fixed that exact problem with my MK3, which was the UJ, so I hope it's that.

Yeah I'm constantly cleaning out the rear arches on the MK3. I'll probably be amazed by the standard brakes anyway compared to the hopeless ones I'm used to.

Thanks for that link, looks like it might come in useful - I've already been looking at the white speedo clocks :)

Not at all, I put £200 on with about 3 hours to go and was amazed when I won it. I always put £200 on if I see a half decent car, thinking I'm bound to win one at some point :p

Never the less a good result, will be intersting to see how much you have to put into it to get the best out of it!

Well if I decide it's too much work/not worth it, I might just get it through the MOT and sell it on.

fingers crossed there is nothing to it!

The white clocks make a really good difference to the car. That's the reason I bought a Freestyle. One of the later ones, has all I need and nothing I don't!

Sorry, yes picked it up yesterday morning and been busy with it ever since.

Got through about an inch of filler on the sill to find a hole you can get your arm through (no joke). It had already had a patch welded there but then they slapped filler on it which has trapped moisture and rust has spread into the floor pan. So a bit of work to get it through the MOT - good job I don't have to pay anyone to do it.

Cut some repair patches to fit and got one of them welded in place. Started with an arc welder (all I had) but ended up burning through the metal. So I had to go and get a MIG from machine mart and that does the job.

On the plus side it drives brilliantly, so much more modern than my MK3 - and quite nippy for a 1.3. Not entirely sure it is an original exhaust so that probably helps :)

Interior is fine, will be better once I've steamed the seats, but there's plently of rust to treat and repaint.

Will get some pictures of the sill when I can.

Good to hear it's not too bad! Mine has had the sills done a couple of years ago, nothing further thankfully. How are the arches? I want mine doing soon, but not sure on the cost of it. The 1.3 isn't bad! I had one as a courtesy car, I'm sure lots better than mk3 with a 1.1... What equipment does it have? Is there a sunroof fitted to finesse models?

Oh it is bad, I'm sure most people would scrap it, it's just I like fiestas too much to see one scrapped. If I took it to a garage to have the work done it would cost more than the car will ever be worth.

The arches are rotten on the inside but nothing major on the outside, the seam between inner and outer arch has gone. Am I right in thinking that isn't an MOT fail as it isn't structural?

As for kit, it has a sunroof and that's it, unless pop out rear windows weren't standard on the lower model??

£190 for the car, £50 for some service items and a wishbone. Plus £130 for the mig welder, but that will come in useful on the escort so I dont count that :)

Technically two new tyres as well but they came off the mk3 as they were nearly new.

You should be fine with the arches. As long As there's nothing mounted nearby you're all good. There's some of these cars with a lot of rust and it's mainly cosmetic. I think you're right with no pop out windows in the back. I thought it was a 5dr haha

you should be able to sell it for a profit if you dont want it, but it sounds like its a cheap investment!
