Focus 6 Speed Gearbox?

hi guys I've got a 2.0ltr petrol focus cc 2008 it's got a 5 speed gearbox in it at the moment but as the clutch is on it's way out i'm thinking of perhaps a 6 speed box to split the ratio's a little ( i think its a bit sluggish ) but i'm having problems finding out if they actually fitted a 6 speed box to a 2.0ltr petrol engine and what the gearbox code is? I know they fitted the same parts in the volvo and mazda but again it's all down to what code? Is one of the diesel box's compatible?

With a diesel being so low revving compared to the petrol, the gear ratios may be different (and unsuitable) 6th may be an overdrive on the 6-speed, so will not help performance if so

it does not matter how many gears you have, it will not increase power and if 6th is super- high (an overdrive) it will feel even more sluggish in 6th, with having to change down for steep hills etc, the revs may be lower on the m-way for relaxed cruising though

Probably not worth the hassle / time/ expense - read this

i'm really after a 6 speed box from a 2.0ltr petrol so it's an easy fit either from a ford ,volvo or mazda as they use the same parts. A diesel box would only be a second option

Its no easy fit mounting points are different the 6 speed has wiring and sensors the 5 speed doesnt the clutch is different the driveshafts as well and the fact it doesnt have enough torque for a 6 th gear a diesel would take it

Not all the parts on a mazda or volvo are the same for example the focus has an ib5 or mx75 gearbox however over the years there have been internal changes so a 2008 wont work on a 2001 despite both having the ib5 gearbox

You have an old box fitted to the escort mk5 and escort rs2000 the mondeo none that im aware came as 6 speed newer boxes are totally different some twin clutch which wont work simplest way is to swap the engine and gearbox to something else or tine the 2.0 engine which is easier and cheaper take a look http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-zetec-e-tuning-guide.html

Yes you you can but this conversion requires quite some modifications

The 1.8 Duratec HE Petrol engine has the 5-speed IB5 gearbox.
The 1.8 TDCI Diesel engine uses the 5-speed MTX75 gearbox. This gearbox is also used on the 2.0 Duratec HE.

This conversion requires at least the following parts:

* Gearbox with the correct gear ratio.
* Both gearbox mounts.
* Both driveshafts of a 2.0 Duratec HE.
* Dual mass flywheel of a 2.0 Duratec HE.
* Clutch of a 2.0 Duratec HE.
* Shifter cables.
* Hydraulic clutch lines.

In my opinion this upgrade is only worth it on higher power engines (like the Fiesta MK6/MK6.5 ST) on which damage of the IB5 gearbox is quite common.
