Help! Touchscreen Sat Nav Vin Locked

Hello everyone,

I have a 2011 plate Mk4.5 Titanium X mondeo and I recently purchased a OEM Touchscreen nav unit that came out of a scrapped 2012 plate Zetec business. I fitted the unit and as expected it asked for a PIN which i obtained and entered but it didnt work, I then found a PIN from a separate source that turned out to be the same as the first PIN and apparantly correct. I've since been informed that these units are VIN locked to the vehicle it came out of but have no idea how to enter my VIN into the unit! 3 local ford dealers were no help and a local ICE specialist says it cant be reprogrammed but there must be someone out there with the knowlwdge to help me...i have spent £500 so far with no luck...HELP please

Stoney871,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I've took a look at the link and don't think it would apply to my unit, I've already spent money on "specialists" who make all the right noises initially but failed to deliver, I am happy to pay to get it sorted but trying to find someone who actually knows what's needed rather than taking their best guess is proving to be an issue. Cheers for the input though :-)

How does the navigation know the car vin?

I honestly don't know, I'm just going off what I've been told and guess it's programmed into it somehow? Nice Focus BTW

Thanks bud :)

Are you sure you've done the code in the correct order?

If so then and it is locked to a vin then the code is mated with the same vin anyways regardless of vehicle, or even if it's powered outside of a vehicle.

Are you sure you've been given the correct code? Is it on the original card?

Try and track the former car down - the guys who sold you the part probably still have access to it, then if you get the VIN from the car and put that in it will unlock the unit.

I have the VIN and reg of the vehicle it came out of but there is no option to enter it into the unit anyhow, unless you know of a way?

Spoke to ford main dealer and the master tech there says I'll never get it to work! Not what I wanted to hear :-(

can you access the antitheft menu?

Does the info in my link above not describe how to input vin details?

Jeebo, don't know how to enter the anti theft menu (unless you mean the screen that asks for PIN)

Stones, the instructions on your link were for a CD radio unit, not the touch screen sat nav, I didn't think it would apply.

The only way it can be linked to the vin is if the touchscreen unit is reading the data from the ecu and the one programmed into the touchscreen and recognising a mismatch.

The only way I can think of to get over this is to totally wipe the memory of the touchscreen unit(may involve removing the back up battery in the circuit boards) then plugging it into your car as a "brand new" unit and it should then program itself to your vin.

I read something where there was a guy who took another head unit, stripped the cover off and used the basics of shorting out circuits in the hope of not blowing the radio up, but instead to wipe its memory. He did it and it didnt blow up the stereo...

Yeah it's just a simple circuit at the end of the day.

I still reckon you have the wrong security code for the radio.

It's very easy to pay for a code and someone to fob you off.

Have you tried googling the problem?

I'm sure a solution is out there somewhere, it's just something we haven't come across before.

I second this I don't believe the code is correct

I had a working Touch screen sat nav until battery disconnected, car has been in to ford who took out radio and input code, displays wrong code, Ford don't know why they suggest I buy a new unit.

Did you get any joy?

They are trying to rip you off... Get the v code off the side of the radio or have a look online for code providers they can take the VIN or serial and generate a code.

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this site but I got heads up on this, if your topic is relevent.

The head unit stores the VIN details of ALL the components in the audio/nav system. When the unit is switched on it comunicates with the componants and checks they're working. When you change a unit it has a different VIN thats not recogised and therfore won't acknowledge it's there.

To fix this Ford (and other) plug in the diagnostic unit and reset the VIN details.

look here

Good luck

It's been working fully functional for a year now after slight modification of the cars harness (ford "master techs" said it couldn't be done), it's not been anywhere near ford or their IDS so guess all this VIN stuff is/was nonsense

Hi I have a 2012 Mondeo the battery went dead and my 7inch touch screen is asking for the code that I don’t have.

how do I get the serial number on the touch screen when I look online the other radios you just hold down two numbers but that is not working with my touch screen.. any help would be greatly appreciated..

Normally you press and hold buttons 1 & 6 at the same time, but on some radios its buttons 2 & 6.

If that won't work then you will have to take the radio out and look at the label
