Ford Fiesta Zetec Problem With Lights!

Hi all

I have recently purchased my first car which is a 1998 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25 S Reg and was wondering if you could all help me diagnose a problem.

The issue I am having is with my lights, my side lights work fine and so do my indicators however as I go to turn the main beam on or full beam.... nothing, the side lights stay on but that's it. The strange thing is the additional bulb the closest to the centre of the car as well (sorry I don't know the exact name) will come on when I flash the lights, just not when I switch full beam on.

I have tried switching swapping the relays over, which changed nothing and have checked the fuses. Could this be simply a new bulb or maybe even the switch?

This car as great as it is, has truly emptied my bank with the new parts I have had to get changed since purchase so I am hoping it is something simple. It passed its MOT in December with its previous owner so they must have been working before.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like the switch itself in the stalk (I believe this is where the light controls are). As such you will need to replace the full switch / stalk, or if this is a seperate switch on the dash, this will need replacing.

Thank you for the reply. Is it possible it could be an issue with the bulb? I've been told they are double filament so perhaps one of these has gone? As a bit of additional information, since I first noticed the issue the light worked once on sustained full beam, to which I switched it off and on again to check, and its stopped working again.

I'm wondering if I should get the light changed first as a precaution or just take it to someone who does car electrics.

Thanks again
