derf
Hi guys - I have a 2009 Zetec 1.6 with 60k miles. I've had it for a few months and I noticed this from the beginning. Basically, in the first few minutes of my journeys I sometimes hear a clunking sound coming from the front left or front right when I turn a corner briskly. What could it be? It doesn't seem to happen when i've driven more. You know when you lift yourself out of your chair if you've stayed on the computer for hours, and your elbows click? Well I kind of get the impression the car is doing something similar :D Not sure how else to describe it, but the sound is audible when it happens, so i'm wondering if it's something to be worried about, or some quirky way that the suspension works or something. Secondly, while i'm here, the car gave me the low brake fluid light today, so i'm wondering what kind of fluid i should get hold of. Opinions? Focus-Jonny
Hi mate that clunk or twang noise you are hearing is the ABS doing a self test and is normal, it had me worried for the first week of driving my mk2.5 It will only make that noise once from starting the car and It will happen when the car goes over a certain speed! Depending on wether your accelerating or turning at the point of self test the noise can be really loud and harsh sounding Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
Focus-Jonny
Also i get a quiet dull thud when I turn the Air-con on which is another noise not to worry about Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
jg321
As focus-jinny says, mine does this too. If turning it sounds really bad!
IINexusII
i wouldnt think thats normal for a focus to clonk while turning. youll need to get the suspension inspected. check the ball joints, lower control arms, drop links, top mounts. as for the low fluid warning. the fluid will not get low for no reason unless there was a leak. get your brake pads checked as theres a chance they are getting low. the brake fluid fills more into the caliper as the brake pads wear, eventually giving a low fluid warning. its designed that way. It's normal bro and it does sound far more aggressive when turning, especially on a cold start, happens at 12mph. jg321
If it only happens once when first pulling away after starting (or even restarting), at around 10mph, then it's normal. If it happens more than this then it's not.

sonic113
Yes agree I have the same focus and after every start you will get a clunk sound around 10-12mph near the same time as the seat belt warning.Like mentioned its just the ABS self test. and as Jonathon said sometimes you may hear a light thud when you turn on the AC i also get this and it appears to be normal as well so noting to worry about. as for the brake fluid light I would recommend checking for any leaks on the brake system and clutch as its a fluid clutch. Just if you got a low reading there may be a leak somewhere in order for the fluid to be that low. But for the type of fluid its recommended to use fluid to a spec of ESD-M6C57-A. As a ref I Have included the table of recommended fluid specs for you or any 1 for future ref and just handiness. I think this might be ok but other may be to recommend something. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Genuine-Ford-Super-Dot-4-Brake-Fluid-1ltr-1776311-/310787820443?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item485c65cb9b Good luck mate.
