Windows 8 is fugly through and through. If they kept the XP/7 interface and had the option to flick between Metro cack and real windows it wouldnt be half as bad! It's apparently going back to Start Button and will somehow integrate the tiled windows 8 look into a seperate Window, so it does not take over the whole interface. That's apparently the latest rumour. Plus they are now tying the activation to the Microsoft Store rather than your PC. Again all rumours. Stoney871 Posted July 14, 2014 Share Posted July 14, 2014 Really do not like W8 and W8.1 is too buggy for me. I read an OS review a week ago that rated XP, Vista, 7 and 8/8.1 against each other. XP and 7 were well ahead and in a final like for like comparison 7 just nudged to the top. 8 is fine if you have a touch screen but other than that ugh! Vista was a total bodge. Watchdogs test tonight, should be fun ;) And Windows 9 from what I've heard looks promising and we should get a preview soon as there are no more updates for Windows 8 planned. I hear you about Windows 8, I installed 7 on my new rig as I absolutely hate Windows 8. My Rig, Intel i5 750 2.66GHz @ 3.2GHz Overclock EVGA P55 SLI Motherboard EVGA GTX 560 Ti Corsair 16GB Vengance LP 1600MHz RAM Vertex 4 128GB SSD Seagate 2TB HDD Started this build nearly 5 years ago when Windows 7 was released, I got a the Retail version for only £45 (Pre-Order). Went with 16GB RAM because it was so cheap a few years ago, I noticed other day it is literally twice what I paid (£59 vs £119). First and only time I've tried Windows 8 was on a mates new laptop, he wanted me to set it up for him, Using a laptop track-pad (no touch screen) was a nightmare, couldn't find anything I wanted. I know alot of my gripes were fixed in 8.1, but not tried it since. I also want a Surface Pro 3 tablet, I don't think Windows 8.1 would bother me so much on that, It should be brilliant for my Photography and do everything I want except play Arma 3, But as with PC, I want to wait for the 2015 Broadwell version, the 30% Power and 40% Graphics boost should be awesome, And hopefully come with Windows 9!, Windows has always been alternately bad (Millennium, Vista, Win8). 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As a super geek, it's good to see people on here who also share my passion for PC's as well as Ford:P I wish I knew about my car as I do my PC, been driving 9 years and never done anything with an engine, I wish I knew how they worked so I could do most of my own servicing, and feel half confident if there was a fault, With my PC I can actually move it and have a good idea what went wrong with it, I'm too scared to tinker with car incase I break it and can't move it lol, even though my local garage is 50 meters from front door :D 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

People who trash it usually have never used it or had a go on initial release with old software etc. It was heavily updated and works perfectly once you ditched the old XP programs and hardware etc. It's a shame because properly set us it's the same as 7 especially with an SSD. You just turn off UAC, defrag and indexing. It's fast and reliable. Yes 7 is excellent but it's just Vista with the tweaks. Vista will go down in history as a flop but mainly because this is what the internet tells us but seriously I like my computers and I wouldn't be using it now if it was a dud. Upgraded my Gran's computer to Win 7 it was like breathing a fresh lease of life back in to it and there hasn't been half as many problems. Still the usual Winblows stuff but it can't be infallible. Well each to their own, but as an apparently serious upgrade to Windows XP, Vista came flawed out of box and the damage was already done before Microsoft fixed to it to run in a half decent way. I'm glad it works for you but for the general masses and businesses who attempted to use it, they didn't have the same experience. Windows 8 is not as bad as Vista but has been labelled the new Vista. It's a slightly unfair comparison as Vista was overwhelmingly panned due to its performance, security vulnerabilities, memory flaws, the DRM fiasco, and the general usability and upgrade issues, whereas Windows 8 is being panned due to it's sales performance and lack of acceptance in the market place, mainly due to the interface design trying to shift the average user towards tablets/mobile devices and failing spectacularly. Windows NT and 3.1 bring back memories. Windows 95 was way ahead of it's time, nothing else like it when it came out. Windows 98 SE was the best version. Windows ME will never be spoken of again. Windows XP little ropey to start with but patched into a capable OS, and it's longevity is quite remarkable. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been and is rightly so, the most popular Windows OS and the most popular desktop OS in the world. Windows 9 looks promising so far and will correct many of the mistakes (hopefully) that were made with Windows 8. On a non windows related note, I did quite like Ubuntu back in the day. Jeez, I remember O level computer studies in the 80's having to write an indexing program in cobol and making a total nub of it. I ended uo sarcastically at the time typing in each of the popup windows as part of the maze game a few insults to my teacher, forgetting that I had coded them in, I was having problems with the code and asked my tutor to come help. He clicked run, kept clicking through the scenario, about 4 clicks later he loaded the module that suggested he was a useless (number of additional offensive comments passed) unfortunately I had built in a no escape policy - needless to say I was asked to leave the room very quickly after that....
