kpg Posted July 13, 2014 Share Posted July 13, 2014 (edited) Right, seriously annoyed off now with this rattle. It happens under heavyish acceleration all the time. Sounds like it's coming from front passenger side but I can't pin point it at all. I've searched Google and stuff for a solution but no one seems to know exactly what it is. Some people said could be wheel arch lining but it sounds too 'light' to be that. Anyone here know what it is ? kpg Posted July 14, 2014 Author Share Posted July 14, 2014 I had a quick look under the car at the exhaust shielding but that seems more central whereas the rattle sounds like it's coming from more to the left of the car. Had the car jacked up ready to get the front wheel off, opened rear door to get something and after closing it I heard the rattle. Turns out it the exhaust heat shield that's rattling about. Its not really that loose but even tapping it makes an awful sound. So I think I'll leave it in to the mech beside work to see what he can do. If it is just a stone, jack the back up and hit the undershield with a rubber mallet. this should tell you straight away and if you hit it well enough, you could end up dislodging it enough and knock it backwards, if its tilting back anyway you might find that you knock it a few times and it comes out. troy45 Posted July 14, 2014 Share Posted July 14, 2014 Sometimes you get the edges of adjacent sections of the heatshield rattling against each other, sometimes there's a bit of foam on there to stop that but it can fall off or be in the wrong place - if it's the shields rattling against each other you can try some foam in hte gap or bend the edges over where they meet to hold them together better.
