M4RC
Hi, I'm looking to replace my standard air box to one with a cone filter. I've had a good look and even made a post before but the only one that seems to be out there is the J1 which is over £200. Surely there's universal ones? I don't understand why they would be specific to the car?? I know there will be no gains but it's just for the sound. stevegtuk
Are you just wanting it for the noise as it is unlikely to make any difference to performance on a diesel. http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/8561-cone-filter-for-mk7s/

stevegtuk
these are a bit cheaper http://www.pumaspeed.co.uk/product-KN-57I-Cone-Filter-Ford-Fiesta-Mk7-Ti-Vct_820.jsp http://www.j1automotive.co.uk/ourshop/cat_506007--Ford-Fiesta-Mk7.html If you find out the size of the J1 or others you know will fit, then see if which cheaper universal ones have the same dimensions. MattDRX
Just take note of those j1 kits where it says pre-oiled, so I assume they mean you have to oil it at X intervals to avoid the car sucking in bits of filter and ultimately killing it? NQbbe
oil filters need to be cleaned every X miles as MattDRX suggests - cleaning usually involves some sort of chemical fluid to clean it, and then you have to re-oil it again afterwards. Also bear in mind most tests of these filters show LESS power than the stock paper filters - it's usually just a couple of ponies that escape, but I thought you might want to know. M4RC
Yep, like the ones higher up the page. I just got this one - http://www.j1automotive.co.uk/ourshop/prod_3363576-Performance-Air-Filter-MAF-Duct-Fiesta-Mk7-202061001.html I won't need a box with it and I can just use the original clamps and I'll also buy a solid hose

Yeah, I understand that. I've got a k & n panel filter just now so I would have to do it anyways Edited July 29, 2014 by Stoney871

Yeah, I no there will be a slight loss. As long as it gives out a decent noise then I'll be happy
stevegtuk
As NQbbe says, you will probably get some power loss, but without the heat shield to stop heat soak from the engine, you will get even less. Changing the panel filter for one of the after market ones often gives noises without as much power loss. Or cheaper still get one of those exhaust attachments that makes noises http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXHAUST-PIPE-TAILPIPE-WHISTLER-SPORTY-TURBO-DUMP-VALVE-SOUND-WHISTLE-S-NEW-UK-/131156825487?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e898e558f

I've upgraded the panel filter but there is no difference in sound . Hahahahahaha there's not a chance I'm getting one of them. I would have a full exhaust system if it wasn't for insurance
