Mike200681
When accelerating through the gearbox 2nd, 3rd, 4th and reaching rpm of 2500 to 3000 foot is flat on the floor every time, it jerks and stutters around this rpm. Unsure if this fault has been answered already. Someone has said about using different unleaded fuel not the standard stuff? Ive noticed it more when ive just fueled up or carrying a slighlty heavier load i.e camping stuff. It almost feels like something is missing/slipping, also when going through this area its power is flat. any advice or help is greatful. jeebowhite
we need more details, such as more specifics of the car, service history, any other symptons, fuel type etc to be able to really help you. If its petrol, it could be that it needs the coil pack, HT Leads and spark plugs replacing. Or, if the car has the EGR valve, this may need blanking off! Mike200681
Cheers for the reply James. Its a 1.6, (1598cc) petrol duratec engine, focus hatchback, 56' plate, built in Feb 2007. service was done this Feb 2014 spark plugs were replaced with high spec NGK think with the 4 tag ones (unsure of the terminology). Everything else on a service. Coil packs and HT were mentioned by a work mate. Heard they were pricey. So is there one coil pack or 4 to come off plugs (i'm not really a car person so excuse me explanation and use of words).
jeebowhite
AFAIK its a single coil pack unit, so not much to worry about there. Recently another member said that their vacuum hose had a split, this was causing rough running, so it could be worth a look!
Mike200681
I've just started using Shell fuel the V+ Nitro, it may a bit more expensive 136p a litre, but if it works then.......that'll hopefully cure it. Fingers crossed, cheers for all the advice and information.
JTill
I had something similar with my Diesel Focus. I went to the garage and found it was a dodgy fuel pump and sensor.
FOCA
I had something similar with my Diesel Focus. I went to the garage and found it was a dodgy fuel pump and sensor. Yes, and my push bike kept jumping out of top gear, a new back sprocket and chain fixed it, of course its nothing to do with a NA petrol engine

There are many different things that can cause this, including coil packs, HT leads or plugs, but it may be worth checking the engine breather hoses, PCV valve, if there is a split in these hoses the engine can draw air that is not measured with the MAF sensor, causing the engine to run lean, lean running can cause a mid-range flat spot (the symproms you are describing) It may be worth checking the fault codes, before spending money on replacement parts you don't need
