Andy.B1971
For all those wondering should I or shouldn't I fit an EGR blanking plate all I can say is DO IT. I fitted mine yesterday to my 2010 1.6 TDCI this is the first diesel I have owned and all I can say is WOW what a difference it has made, I did have a flat spot / lack of power at the lower end of the rev range basically it was horrid at pulling away without giving it some beans, now though very light throttle the car pulls away without any effort whatsoever , it has totally transformed the drivability of the car, it also feels as if it has a bit more torque I have ordered a green filter too to add breathing .. So go on don't dither DO IT. Lenny has an excellent "how to" on fitting the blank but I didn't take the wiper mechanism etc off I removed the engine cover and fettled the plate in that way it is fiddly so if your not confident maybe ask another member to help fit it for you or follow Lenny's guide and take your time. TOTALLY WORTH IT :D :D :driving:
south_bound
Hi, the plate for the 1.6 looks non symmetrical as if it needs to go in one way round. How do you work out which way it needs to go? Also, I have seen that some people loosen or take off the fuel filter housing to get batter access - did you do it that way? I have had the plate for a few months now, but haven't got around to doing the job.
Andy.B1971
You are correct the plate is shaped a certain way to be honest I just loosened off the 2 bolts off about 5mm and the 1 10mm nut holding the cooler I totally removed and I felt the rough shape of the valve, if you hold the plate up with the high point to the left that is how I fitted mine I have no gases escaping so I presume all is well lol. I didn't remove the fuel filter etc but looking at it it would make it a great deal easier, be warned it is very fiddly if you don't have any patience or you blow a fuse easily I would suggest doing it how Lenny has done by removing the wipers etc . like I have said if your diesel is suffering poor low end power then this is a must it really does thansform the driveability of the car :D

Andy.B1971
well I just hooked it on the top bolt and slid it towards the battery and it clicked into place . COME ON GREEN FILTER HURRY UP LOL :D :driving:

Andy.B1971
I have been used to 240bhp civic type r so I am not expecting much lol it was the low down lack of power/flat spot that was the killer but that has gone now, the filter will be fine im sure , more flowing cold air is always a good thing as you know, and who knows a remap at some point might be on the cards :D

FOCA
here is the specific blanking plate to fit the 2.0TDCi Each engine size has a different form of blanking plate heres the one for 2.0TDCi http://m.ebay.ie/itm/180947853772?nav=SEARCH The EGR in the bottom right of this photo is the Euro III without the electrical connection. If yours is Euro 5 it will have a connector on the left side of the EGR. Plucked this EGR location info from Google mate, I highly recommend fitting a performance induction filter aswell after blanking the egr because the egr provides 20% of waste gases to the induction, When blanked your engine will suck in 100% fresh air as it should have always done, However the standard induction filter is quite restrictive, See my guide here for discount code and link to purchase a Green Cotton Performance filter upgrade, Straight swap same size as stock filter: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/36783-green-cotton-performance-induction-filter-fitting-guide/ The illistrated picture is from a mk3 Mondeo TDCI (Euro3, VNT with pnumatic actuator), this engine was never fitted to any Focus, (or a mk4 Mondeo) which use the (completely different) PSA engine and the EGR design and location is different The link to the plate looks like the right one
south_bound
id say if you have a diesel engine with an EGR valve, Then blank the EGR valve as soon as possible, they never help the engines performance they only recirculate waste gases which contaminate the engine oil aswell as cake up the induction system with carbon slowly killing the turbo, Not that if i was a car manufacturer facing a reduction in new car sales: id surly fit an EGR valve to all diesel engines to ensure i make future profit from turbo failures, blocked dpf's and carbon caked oil sumps, My diesel engine is a euro five emissions based engine, its had the dpf internals removed, 2.5" cat back exhaust fitted, the EGR valve has been blanked, the ECU has been remapped, a Performance induction filter has been fitted, The car had its first MOT last week and passed 100% no problem's Never has it displayed an error Currently getting 68.1MPG with 110,000miles on the clock. WAR EGR DPF What is it good for? "absolutely nothin" Say it again now, I agree with all that. Have you found that the car performance and fuel efficiency just keeps on getting better with time after these mods, almost as if the car is learning to drive with the new set up? I say that because I had the dpf removed and remap 6 months ago and after an immediate improvement it has contimued to get better over time! I keep records with every fuel fill up and before the dpf work I was averaging 60mpg, but it was down to low 50s with dpf clogged and engine light on etc. I just did a 350 mile return trip at the weekend and averaged over 73mpg. Pulling away when I really need to boot it gives a clear difference in performance from before as well. Anyone else noticed this with dpf removal or egr blanking? either way mate its fine. The egr hole is a perfect circle in the very centre, Sliding the plate in from either angle will total eclipse blank the valve passage in the centre, The rest if the plate is just flange and gasket, Thanks, that is really useful. Where did you find the picture, this is exactly what I was looking for to make sure the plate goes in the right way around.
south_bound
Ignore that last point, I did a google image search and found it. This one taken from an eBay ad shows it front on and confirms the right way around for the plate.
