Hi, I've just recently bought my ST and had to transfer my personal plate so here's what you need to do....
The number you wish to sell, first you need to put on retention with DVLA form V317 (download from DVLA website) This costs £80 transfer fee + £25 for 12 months retention. You will also need V62 form to obtain a new V5,the DVLA will put it back on the original reg. number. Send all the forms along with current V5 & MOT cert if applicable to Swansea and you should get replacement tax disc/new V5 Etc. back within 2 weeks..
You will also receive a Retention Certificate for the private plate you wish to sell, when you have a buyer they can put there name on the .retention cert as the "Grantee". If you don't sell within 12 mths you can extend the retention period for another 12 mths for £25..

Hope this helps and good look selling the plate.

Dave
