Focus Speedo Stops Working

Hi,

My 54 plate Focus 1.4 has a problem that the speedo stops working and the mileage readout becomes four dashes,then sometimes the engine management light comes on as well-the fault reader said it was a speed sensor?.Anyone any ideas .Thanks

It does sound like the VSS.

when the problem occurs do you find that the engine power dips a bit as well?

A VSS is about £15-£20 on eBay with a new mounting pin (essential as the old one will get mangled when being removed).

It can be a swine to remove the old unit and pin but is doable at home.

If in doubt go to a garage, it's about an hours labour.

In extreme cases the sensor or pin can snap off making the job harder, having all the right kit is useful in these cases.
