Hello Everyone (Newbie) Ford Escort

Hello everyone,

I have a Ford Escort MK6 1.8l Ghia '95.

I have not modified it except putting on Akina Speed star stickers from Initial D.

I have completed my first Trackday and hope to do more and make my car more track ready than it is. But I know I will be doing alot more trackdays in the near future (in the hope one day doing the trackday/team trophy). :D

Any tips and advice would be great and highly appreciated :)

for a great track car you need great everything, I would say your looking at a bigger exhaust, bigger air intake, better spark, better plugs. All of these are a starting point, there is more you can do but that is the minimum you need!

Yes, I only really got this for trackday use cause it was cheap :lol: So nothing big to it.

The minimum you need is just A car (did first when it was stock).

Cheers for the advice though,appreciate it. I will see to getting round some of these :)

I tried looking for exhausts, any advice on what to look for, as I can only find stock ones. :wacko:

I wish I had the money for a track car lol, I would love one as a toy though!

To be honest as far as exhausts go, your best off getting a custom made, they arent all that expensive these days and you get the best for what you need. If you get a straight through pipe, then you get the best breathing capabilities of the car, upgrade the air filter is a start, but you can always look to add forced induction if you had a few more quid.

Beyond that you will be surprised what a good service can do for a car, just doing a full "major" service yourself can bring new life to the car and give it back some of its horses, Upgrading old rubber hoses for new silicone ones also allows for less chance of leaks and less bowing of the rubber under pressure.

I recon if you start with a weight reduction program (engine area if you dont want aircon, as well as stripping out extra weight from the back) full service, upgrade the hoses, clean out the air filter housing and replace with a performance filter this is the cheapest place to start. You could probably get all of that if you do it yourself for under £100. Then, upgrading spark plugs, leads and coils for a better variety will set you back about £70 or so, but would give it a bit more! a new exhaust is more expensive, probably looking at a few hundred. Something else I would highly recommend you do - get yourself a Terraclean service. For a car of this age and with its inevitable hard life its had, this also can give you a lot better performance (and economy, but you wont be counting that on the apex :P)

All in all, to get your motor up to spec and in a much better condition for the track (excluding the likes of tyres) I would say for around £500 you could probably have the car much younger in terms of health. If you want much more out of the car, and you really want to make it a true track car, you could probably spend up to £1500 if doing all the work yourself and get the best part of 30-50% more power.

Gonna get an induction kit defiantly along with the other stuff you said, never thought about doing a Terraclean service but sounds like a great idea :lol:

Do you know any services which can make a custom exhaust?

But yeah I can get most these done :)
