Radsy
misses just brought this car 03 plate and she just told me the temperature light came on and the fan kicked in ......any thoughts people thanks in advance
Dan62
If it came on when the engine was cold then suspect the coolant temp. sensor. If its when the engine is warm its possibly a coolant flow problem, low coolant, sticking thermostat or water pump.
btmaldon
Thermostat housing has a habit of warping at that age and starts leaking. Also causes a pressure problem which will cause the car to overheat. The expansion tanks also crack and do the same. Thirdly if the other items are OK, try changing the expansion tank cap. If its not holding the pressure the coolant will not circulate causing hot and cold spots. Lastly the water pump.
Radsy
thanks for the feedback .....I got in her car this morning after not using it for 2 days started 1st time, let it run to see if the tempature light came on it stood running idle for 20 mins to heat up switched blowers on they blew hot and cold air, and NO tempature warning light came on now I am confused
btmaldon
If there are no leaks, change the expantion tank cap. Under load it may not be holding the pressure and for a few quid its worth changing anyway. They dont last forever.
Radsy
no leaks not losing coolant .....and because there's hot and cold air it can't be the therastate ?? I'll change the expansion tank cap
