Fiesta St Sound

I was wondering if it is possible to turn off or disable the sound pipe think that gives the exhaust sound in the car when accelerating. I know it sounds great but wondering if it might get a bit waring and loose its appeal after a while.

Tbf you dont even need that. You can just pull the pipe off under the bonnet and stuff a rag into it and put it back on. And haha tell me about it the noise sounds proper over the top and echoish to me :/

Well if its stupid but it works it aint stupid :) it litterally just pops off when you pull it and then just stick the scrunched up rag into it. There is no pressure or anything so it doesnt go anywhere and it looks totally stock under the bonnet when you reconect the pipe with the rag in

Why would you buy a hot hatch and make it silent? The sound is great and doesn't even drown on the motorway. And it won't loose it's appeal after time lol its addictive

Is this a pipe that makes extra sound in the car to give a false feeling that your going faster?

^ I'm no German, but when he's talking about being Horny and Mutants keep getting into the car it worries me.

Never knew this thing was on the car.... hardly noticeable, although being pauper spec I may not have it.

They did seem to change in volume a lot during production. My ST was 63 plate one and it was hardly noticable. I liked it that way. My 2 mates have 14 plate ones and theirs are stupidly loud.

You may find this is due to adaptive volume in audio settings, turn it off and it is louder, turn it on and it is quieter depending on the level. tested in 2 ST's now and it really does make a difference. I have found at 5000 rpm or more it doesn't matter if its on adaptive or not but under that it does.

Im pretty sure the sound symposer (Sound pipe's official name) on the fiesta st is not electronically controlled. Just vacuum contolled :S

I may have to test this but I though it was just a mechanical thing, like it's either letting sound through or it isn't.

And as for getting bored of it, that's really not an issue for me. I've had the car nearly 4 months and that noise still puts a smile on my face, and I think when I get MP215 this week I'm looking forward to the enhanced noise just as much as the power :)

Yeah nothing electrical, its just inlet noise amplified by a tube of some kind...resonance and all that stuff

I swear by the adaptive volume, my misses even noticed it lol

Maybe as the adaptive volume makes the stereo louder this just makes the engine seem quieter? That's its purpose really lol.

As a side issue to this, I'm thinking of fitting the Mountune Cat Back exhaust to my Fiesta ST MP 215 together [possibly] with the Sports Cat down-tube.

I am just a little concerned that this might alter the currently acceptable noise level at cruising speeds to something that becomes far too intrusive. I don't want to make an expensive mistake here so am wondering whether anyone has first hand experience of this or similar.

Would the Mountune down-tube add to the 'noise'? I guess not, other than from the turbo ... there is always the option of disabling the sound imposer to quieten the exhaust note if necessary.

I may well take a trip to Mountune HQ and have a chat with them re options but in the meantime I'd very much like to hear readers' comments.

I don't have my ST yet, but from what I've seen on other forums people who add the Mountune exhaust and induction tend to them do the "symposer delete" as if not the noise gets OTT because the exhaust/induction makes it louder anyway.

But as I say, I don't even have my ST yet so I can't really comment!

^ As said in another thread, no problems with noise with the Mountune exhaust. It's louder under acceleration which is the whole point of upgrading the exhaust, but when cruising it's not noticeably louder than standard. I wouldn't know about the downpipe & sports cat, but that seems like a lot of money for something that isn't warranty friendly, unless you're working your way towards MR230.

The only problem I've had with the exhaust is that it seems to be knocking on some bumpy roads due to the standard mounts being soft rubber, so I'm upgrading the rear and middle mounts to see if that helps. The Symposer delete looks like a good idea too - might consider trying it if it can be put back to normal in case I don't like it.

There is pressure going through the Symposer, that's why the Mountune delete has a couple of fittings you can use to hook up boost gauges etc. If the rag comes out you are gonna have a huge boost leak haha.

Like everyone is saying it is a totally mechanical device which is designed to vibrate in such as way as to "shape" the induction noise. In practice though it basically just acts as an amplifier for the sound and doesn't really change it's characteristics.

Hi, and hello to all, as a newbie to this forum and my ST2,  im looking for someone to spell it out how to stop the enhanced ''noise'' when in sport mode,  I've looked under the bonnet and its nothing like that focus that the German guy has posted his excellent thread on.  Any body got a pic of under the bonnet as to which pipe i'm looking for please, its a Feb reg this year.

It's digital, through the Speakers on the Mk8, there is no pipe.
