Im thinking of taking off the "mondeo" and "lx" badges off the back of my car but is this likely to damage or
leave an obvious mark?

You may end up with a faint shadow where the badge has blocked sunlight hitting the paint.
A good polish or claybar treatment can help.
Use dental floss to cut the adhesive foam behind the badge and remove the residue with white spirit or petrol on a soft cloth.
