I have just bought a 1996 1.8d. the problem is that the battery light on the dash does not come on when I switch on the ignition, and the battery is not charging. This tells me that the altenater is duff, however at closer inspection I noticed that of the three wires from the wiring block comming from the altenator both the red and the red and black are attatched to the starter, and solonoid respectively the blue wire is broken and I cannot fond where it was attatched to. can someone please help me I do not want to splash out on an altenater if the problem is just a broken wire.
