Ford Protect Premium Plan

I've been looking at the ford protect premium plan on ford's website, and the prices for 2 and 3 year cover (servicing and breakdown) for the fiesta are only £330 and £550 respectively. This is includes brake fluid at 2 years and is much cheaper than the fixed price servicing from my local dealer (come 3 years it's over £200 cheaper!). I haven't had a recent quote for a plan from the dealer but when I bought the car I was offered a £600 3 year plan.

I'm sure a few years back these ford plans cost a lot more than dealer servicing so what's changed? I'm very tempted by this now but I can't help wondering if there's a catch or something to it. I thought maybe the services wouldn't cover as much but seeing as they all cover the same items this can't be the case.

Anyone got one of these plans or any experience of them?

Doesn't sound that cheap really, even compared to ford dealer pricing let alone proper garages.

Although I guess with breakdown cover included it makes the calculation closer. depends if you're intending to just take the local dealer price and not haggle or ring round for quotes...if their price is £200 more then that's a major ripoff!

Then again, friend of mine with a little fiat 500 not even the abarth was quoted, for a year one service ie oil and filter and a few checks, £359!!!!! Fortunately she spoke to me before agreeing to it. :)

Before signing up to the plan ask them for prices of the 1st,2nd and 3rd service. 1st should be £120-£150, ford renew the breakdown cover with the service anyway so the plan might not be saving you any money and is just their way of tying you to them.

Some of these plans do give you a discount on parts which might make it worthwhile.

The dealers pricing is all on their website, the first 3 years cost £221, £233 and £300. This has shot up loads since last year when the first 2 together cost £307 (don't remember the individual costs) and the 3rd year was £199. Basically over 3 years it's gone from £507 to £754 .

I know the breakdown cover comes with every service anyway as I used this on my last car, and unless I go elsewhere the ford plan is much cheaper! I'd rather stick with a ford dealer and there aren't any others locally I know of with lower prices so I will probably go with the ford plan assuming the local dealer is one of the ones offering it.

What sort of prices are you looking at for 3 years?

I've just recently taken out a service plan 565 for three years , now I guess its what suits you and your budget but I paid mine outright so im covered for future services and don't have to worry about finding the money when it's service time . And its fixed so if servicing costs go up I don't pay any extra plus it's transferable so if I change car I can transfer the remaining cover ,
