Does not state if it has a new transponder in though. So I would plan on using the transponder from one of your keys if you go for it, but if the transponder is new then even better. JW1982 Posted February 28, 2015 Share Posted February 28, 2015 A used key can be programmed without any problems as long as it has the correct type of transponder chip. I have done this a lot of times. I buy/sell and refurbish Ford folding keys on a regular basis and also have the equipment to reprogram the PATS system. Be aware that on a Focus MK2/MK2.5 you can only program the remote control functions yourself. The PATS chip must be programmed with a suitable diagnostic system which has the ability ro program the CODED PATS system. On the Folding keys the PATS chip is located inside the key part of the folding key and not inside the remote control part. The 2 halves of the key part are glued together and can not be removed without damage. Because of this it is not possible to install your own PATS chip inside a used key part of a folding key. If you want to use your own PATS chip you have to buy an aftermarket key part without a chip. These are identical to the original ones but are not glued. You have to install your own PATS chip and glue the halves together afterwards. Another possibility is to drill the original PATS chip out of the used key part using a 10 mm drill bit and glue your own PATS chip inside the hole. I have done this myself several times. When a signal is induced into the transponder chip via a ring positioned around the ignition barrel it returns a code number which if matched to the car allows the car to start. westie321 Posted February 28, 2015 Author Share Posted February 28, 2015 Timpsons have said they can do it, i have just got to take my key to them to have a copy of my transponder (PATS) and they will fit it to my key that's coming. A new transponder coded to te car would be better or remove the transponder from your old key and fit that into the replacement key would be cheaper. Like I say it's just what some owners reported happening or the MG Rover forums, but I think that was cloning the one key and using both keys as his and hers for example. But again it depends on the security system and how it works etc, the ZTT I have is very sophisticated inn terms of it's electronics or was in it's day.
