I looked at that myself actually. I think it's a second hand key with a new blade piece fitted. Does not state if it has a new transponder in though. So I would plan on using the transponder from one of your keys if you go for it, but if the transponder is new then even better.

Thats what I'm thinking to but if it doesn't work then i can send it back as they cant sell it, if it cant be re-programmed.

are you bidding on it lol (as I am)

A used key can be programmed without any problems as long as it has the correct type of transponder chip. I have done this a lot of times. I buy/sell and refurbish Ford folding keys on a regular basis and also have the equipment to reprogram the PATS system.

Be aware that on a Focus MK2/MK2.5 you can only program the remote control functions yourself. The PATS chip must be programmed with a suitable diagnostic system which has the ability ro program the CODED PATS system.

On the Folding keys the PATS chip is located inside the key part of the folding key and not inside the remote control part. The 2 halves of the key part are glued together and can not be removed without damage. Because of this it is not possible to install your own PATS chip inside a used key part of a folding key.

If you want to use your own PATS chip you have to buy an aftermarket key part without a chip. These are identical to the original ones but are not glued. You have to install your own PATS chip and glue the halves together afterwards.

Another possibility is to drill the original PATS chip out of the used key part using a 10 mm drill bit and glue your own PATS chip inside the hole. I have done this myself several times. However because of the limited space inside the key part this method is a bit risky.

I have a genuine ford flip key and the bottom part separates easily the chip isn't glued in but awkward to get out and sits in its own section moulded to hold it tightly in place the replacement ford one is exactly the same no glue required they clip together however as you say specialist tools are required to code it to the pats system you can't do it youreself

A decent Auto Locksmith can cut a blade and code the key to your car in about 5 minutes.

A guy I use and recommend to people in Devon (recommended to Me by my brother-in-law who owns his own garage, he's a rubbish mechanic but the key guy is spot on) uses an IDS pad which codes the PATS and RCL in seconds.

If I understand right...

PATS is another name for transponder it allows the immobilizer to start the engine.

I can't reprogramme one but a auto lock smith or a key shop can make me a new one.

PATS stands for Passive Anti Theft System.

It basically works the same way as identity chips used in dogs.

When a signal is induced into the transponder chip via a ring positioned around the ignition barrel it returns a code number which if matched to the car allows the car to start.

The same sort of thing is also used in magnetic door entry systems and anti-shoplifting tags in stores.

Unfortunately no.

A quick dig around on the internet should find a few in your area.

I recommend ringing for quotes and making a decision from there.

Timpsons have said they can do it, i have just got to take my key to them to have a copy of my transponder (PATS) and they will fit it to my key that's coming.

He said £25-£55 With a new copy of the transponder (PATS) thats in my old non-remote key and the new key cut..

Any thoughts......

I'm not convinced with cloning transponders myself, a number had this done on Rover 75,s or ZT`s but after a while they stopped working. A new transponder coded to te car would be better or remove the transponder from your old key and fit that into the replacement key would be cheaper.

I had mine don't for about 35 quid, the key guy cloned the carbon chip and duped it into a glass chip for me which I put into the key

I said that to him but he is going to look at it when its in his hand, as there is alot of ways to do it, i dunno as im not a auto-lock smith i just said yes lol.. I think its going to be about £25 as that's what he said first, then i said whats the price range and he said the most costly one they do is £55

Like I say it's just what some owners reported happening or the MG Rover forums, but I think that was cloning the one key and using both keys as his and hers for example. But again it depends on the security system and how it works etc, the ZTT I have is very sophisticated inn terms of it's electronics or was in it's day. About 90% reliable German BMW parts lol (irony in there for anyone unsure)

Just to make sure you are doing the procedure correctly see my thread and link to a video of me doing it on my car. http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/67952-video-on-programming-key-remotes-into-your-mk2/

Have you made sure all the boxes are ticked in Elmconfig as per mine before trying the remote sync procedure buddy?
