How on earth do you adjust the cable tension on the handbrake?

Got mot coming up soon and the handbrake barely holds the car if on an incline.

its automatic adjustment if its pre 2003..mine was terrible to in the end i pulled disks and pads out and replaced and it helped alot

Its a 51 plate.

Can it not be manually adjusted then, its mot time soon so will falil in its current state

could try checking cables are free i took mine off and put wd40 down the inside of cable sleeveand repeatedly pushed and pulled cable in and out.Also try foot on brake and press handbrake button in and pull lever up and down several times.check the slidders on caliper are moving freely to

Theres a heatshield above the centre section of the exaust, bend it down and follow where the handbrake cables go to, there will be a plate they both connect to with a nut. Tighten the nut up but make sure the cables and levers on the calipers are free as there pretty common to sieze up and you wont have much of a handbrake
