Im driving a focus mk3 zetec s.

My MPG was real crappy a few weeks a go then I embarrassingly got caught speeding (3 points £100) don't do It folks! still within the first 2 years of my licence lucky to still be on the road! however, learning from my mistake.....My MPG has increased surprisingly lol but its still crappy.... Im driving like a granny now changing gears when it asks me doing everything! I can only get 33.6???? is this normal?

what are the rest of you getting out of your focus's?

Cheers James

Ahh that's shocking! Its braking my bank, £10 in my ofiesta Mk7 would of given me a gallon.... £10 in the new focus doesn't even register on the fuel gage lol :(

I run a Mk3 1litre ecoboost 125 with about 13k on the clock. My mpg is around the 36 mark but when I got the car it was around 32, other forum members seem to achieve better results. I was expecting at least in the low 40 considering the type of driving I do but alas I'm not. One of my previous cars was a 1.6 Astra which I drove quite quick and got about 35 mpg, this one has to be driven with care otherwise mpg drops below the 36. So much for this engine being full of technology.

No cars hit there claimed mpg simply put manufacturers jumped on the high petrol prices and saw a way to get people buying new cars... better mpg almost all new car owners complain the mpg isnt that good worse than the car they had doesnt bother the manufacturers you bought a nice new car cha ching to them

if your knocking around town, that will bring the mpg way down.

I've a Mk2.5 1.6 Titanium, so not a comparable engine, but doing a 24 mile round trip to day country town to country town, including bit of in town driving.

Driving to speed limits, but down to fifty in places due to traffic in front of me. Sitting well back from the car in front of me If I'm not inclined or in a position to overtake it. Thus able to keep that foot of the brake pedal reacting to their driving style, if I had been sitting on their tail, I got 43.0 mpg.

Try this on a run like that reset your dashboard miles cover, and your MPG settings to zero first. Then see what it returns. Now if your going to be doing some in traffic knocking about town driving, do the same. You will be amazed at the differance in MPG between the two.

Petrol or Diesel? I'm sure you're talking about Diesel.

no as my avatar states.... petrol

I'm a spread sheet junky to be honest, I love numbers, and yes I know what alot of people are thinking  But like I say each to their own.

I have spread sheet historical data and extrapolated data on the likes Mpg , tyre wear , even fiscal standing in regard to actual/projected income and outgoings, the later projects five year into the future.....obviously if I get hit by a bus tomorrow ......

It's a habit I got into whilst in business, better to know where your going, than blindly hoping for the best

I have petrol / mileage data on my last three cars Volvo S40 2.0 diesel, Mk2 Focus 1.6 petrol, and my current car..

I brim my tank every time and record dash board data and actual MPG achieved. And in that regard the figures usually differ by Dash over recording +one Mpg.

Current actual Mpg averaged since 24th March 2014 [bought car 3 years old] ......36.85mpg

Going touring for a fortnight soon, and historicly I achieve between 38 to 39 averaged Mpg over that fortnight.

I once achieved 50 mpg on the dash M6/ A65 junction to Home [39 miles] that was in the Mk 2 [same engine as Mk2.5] Its a very bad road for overtaking, you get past something and your stuck behind something else so thought whats the point, just go with the flow, and yes I was attempting to not burn fuel I had put into the engine, on my brake pads., that was averaging 50 mph [the traffic flow]

Best I've ever recorded Mk2 again, outskirts of town on County A road to outskirts on a town 11 miles away. again on the dash 57.30 mpg

My Mk2 actual yearly average Mpg was 32.92, but included more urban useage [wife going to work and such]

Now she has retired hence acheiving better mpg in the Mk2.5 plus I do nearly 99.9% of the driving ..it makes a difference you know using those two extra gears :D

What does it say inside the fuel cap to use obviously min 95 ron fuel but is it regular etc ? I ask as mines super premium or premium plus if i use standard i do ger less mpg i know some will debate it but i do if i use super or premium plus i get better mpg fords using the ti vct system are high compression 11.1 engines with knock sensors and run better on higher octane fuel

!Removed! Hell!!!!! How can you achieve such MPG????? Mine is as low as 29.8 now.

Another off topic question. What is your RPM when you're doing 70 MPH? Mine is as high as 3000-3200.

Your on the same engine as mine [by the way I'm using Supermarket petrol as well]

Artscot79 has the better engine of the two engines on offer in the Mk2 / 2.5

Now I did try premium petrol [sansbury's] once, and it did give a bit better MPG. But once I ran it through my petrol spreadsheet  though the MPG was better the Cost per MPG ratio was higher.

Now I put that down to the bog standared Supermarket fuel being keenly priced, compertition and all that, plus for most motorists it's price point that attracts them to Supermarket forecourts. The marketing guys would work on the theory that those willing to put super premium in their tanks where less price sensitive.

I say that because I made my living out of selling goods and services, and price is the primary driver in most lines of business. That said due to the mystical art of television advertising, Brand is the best "Money Mine" out there, subscribers to Branding are willing to spend a life time in debt to the bankers, to be seen driving, wearing, or using the Brand.

Back on topic, I can only think the differences in MPG are down to one or maybe two of the following, your driving style and or your pattern of driving, such as driving in a fair chunk of congested town and urban traffic, stop start low gear driving and the like.

RPM at 70, I'll let you know when I come back off my holidays :D

Since driving more sensibly I have managed to get my MPG up from 33.6 to now 34.6 which is great!

Nice one James, my mpg does improve if driven sensibly but when you have a car like this you can't help giving a bit of right foot.
