Anyone fitted the geniune ford ipod holder to their focus armrest console without one from stock?

I ordered one and fitted but seems to prevent the cig lighter cover from opening.

Can anyone advise fitting on my zetec model as no instructions.

All I can think to do is take it out, remove the 12v cover and reinstall it.

Or, you could install a multiport splitter, one that plugs in and has a short cable, then reinstall the holder :)

I think you may have to trim the bottom of the holder slightly or remove the socket cover.

Is the holder flush against the back of the unit?

I was thinking exactly those options. It does seem to sit flush on the back which was confusing me to why it doesnt sit right.

Wondering if the consoles with the ipod holder built in them have some other part that makes it sit perfect which i am missing?

The other flaw ive found as i brought it to sit my iPhone in while it is charging.. The lid doesnt shut down as iPhone is too high.

I believe the holder was designed for an ipod classic rather than phones so that's most likely the problem.

Yeh that is probably true about the ipod classic.

Does anyone here work for ford who can get me a breakdown diagram of the armrest console so that i can see how it all goes together?

You need to remove the back of the armrest then cut some holes for the securing tabs usb and AUX ports on the ipod holder to go through, there's a faint line molded into the plastic

I have Microcat but tbh it only shows an exploded parts layout so no fine details on assembly.

I'll get the pic up for you later though.

The back cover is easy.

Two screws at the top under the hinge area and pull the cover back and up to release.

Picture to follow, not sure if it will be of great use but see how you go.

After stripping the back cover and seeing what gazRs and stoney posted in assistance (highly appreciated) i finally discovered why it wasn't sitting flush.

I removed a part from behind the holder sticking out preventing flush, with a solder iron as only plastic welded on.

This is the part:

Now a happy result:

Have a plan to revert back to plastic welding part on again and installing usb and aux if i struggle to get what im after with a mod with custom dual usb socket

Excellent result.

I guess that bracket is where the oem usb/aux clips in.
